Auto will always be easier no matter the condition but standard is deff much better in the snow you have so much more control over the car. Any scion is good in the winter they are all FWD,

best car for snow is a subaru. all scion's are front wheel drive, with proper tires, they can get by in snow. and manuals are always better, but their ability to handle driving in the snow is dependant on the driver's ability to operate them.

I don't see how a manual gearbox would be any better in the snow versus an automatic. You can start out in 2nd gear in either one. Traction control also evens the playing field.

control over engine power and shift points and engine braking. automatics might shift up or down at times you don't want them to causing a loss of control.

Not with the manual shifting mode offered in some (if not all) Scions.

manual shift mode does not give you full control. trust me, manual transmission, full manuals with a clutch pedal are the best.
