1977 Toyota Celica with a Supra motor, and '06 tC <--Newb
 

Hey all,
I just purchased a '06 Flint Mica tC Yesterday, 49k miles, it will just be a DD, joined up here to see what I can learn from you guys.

On to the fun one....


My other car is a 1977 Toyota Celica, originally a Califorinia car but has been in MI for the last 3 years

Once I purchased the vehicle I used it for a DD for a few months until I realized how under-powered it was.

After doing research for a few months I figured I would try to stuff a supra motor in it. I measured it, and I figured it may just fit.

I purchased a 1992 Turbo Supra's 7M-GTE and R154 trans from Japan, replaced the headgasket, and went about tossing it into the bay. I worked on the car sever times a week, and had the swap finished in 3 months time. I had to move some stuff around, and do a ton of modifications of course, but not as bad as you would expect.
All new fuel lines, moved radiator 2 inches, moved shifter hole back 3 inches, tons of other stuff, and one of that hardest parts... I put in a 8.75" 1968 Dodge Dart rear axle because I knew the 6.7" factory diff just was not going to hold up.
Had a ton of fun with the car, and then decided to pull the car apart again over last winter to do a few modifications. I installed coated forged wiseco's, shot peened and resized rods, micropolished crank, and dynamically balanced the entire rotating assembly. I also had the head and block decked and I installed a metal head gasket, a fuel pressure regulator, and a 57 trim ct26 turbo.
I never really liked the Tan color too much, so I decided to prep and paint the engine bay "08 Scion Tc Super White". I also got rid of the huge USDM style safety bumpers and switchd to much lighter and smaller fiberglass bumpers. This winter I plan on finishing the rest of the body and paint work, and then doing some suspension modifications.
This year, I took the car to Milan Dragway..... on the TINY 195-70-14's that are on it, I still somehow managed to run a 12.4@117mph, on only 12-13 lbs of boost. When it comes back to life next year I hope to have a Holset HY or HX35 on it, and more boost, lots more.

Dang that thing is incredibly clean for its age. Was the original motor crap, besides the power? I still love the old louvers on the rear window. lol

The original motor ran great actually, just was dog-slow

Looks like a catch can, and from past experiences, a soda bottle works just as well as all of the ones on the market.


Curious, why'd you paint the engine bay a different color than the rest of the car.

Yup, just a temporary catch can.

The engine bay is actually just my first step in painting the car, I had the motor out so I figured I would get that part done first. Now I need to finish painting the rest of the car.

Yes, it's an LSD, and it's a 3.91 gear.

Holy F'ing moly.... talk about one of your ultimate "sleepers".
damn no one would expect a Supra plant and drive train sitting under the hood of an old school Celica GT.... very nice man. Props to ya
