Default San Antonio Beware

Police Chief Bill McManus said the Aggressive Drivers Unit has proved effective in dealing with aggressive drivers. McManus said that the vehicles include recessed emergency lights and subdued lettering.

"The stealth vehicle fleet makes it easier to identify aggressive drivers," McManus said. "When there's a marked car around, people don't drive aggressively. It's only when they're not there that they're going to do it."

And this is why I detest traffic enforcement divisions. When people don't drive agressively, the road is safer. The whole "to PROTECT and SERVE" thing. By hiding, they're actually making things more dangerous to chase speeding ticket revenue that probably bought those new Camaros. As a byproduct, you also get that traffic crunch as everyone suddenly slams on the brakes when they realize it's a cop car.

By all means, be out there and enforce the law, taking those perpetual lane changers and tailgaters off the road, but do it conspicuously, with a show of force so that the future speeder slows down and doesn't plow into the back of my Scion.

I feel for you in San Antonio, but at least you don't have to deal with California traffic laws
