Arlington man injured while trying to
'roof surf' on highway
11:07 AM CDT on Friday, April 4, 2008 - Associated Press
An Arlington man was critically injured Thursday night when he
tried to "roof surf" atop a car traveling down a highway, police said.
The unidentified man, 24, has life-threatening injuries after trying
to climb out of a Scion xB and onto its roof. He fell from the car
onto the highway but was not struck by any vehicles, authorities
said. The man was transported to a hospital by helicopter.
The accident remains under investigation, and authorities are still
looking for another passenger who fled the scene, Arlington police
Lt. Michael Holguin said.
The driver did not appear to be intoxicated, but police believe alcohol
may have been a factor, Holguin said.

Heh. I did some more checking and found some dialog in a Ft. Worth discussion group:
What can I say?
"Roof Surfing"....I am so sorry that Dustin was hurt but how stupid is that. This is something they need to broadcast on the news for a couple of days to get these kids attention to let them know ," hey you will kill yourself if you do this". My prayers are with him and his family.

ALL I CAN SAY IS GOD WASN'T READY AND THE DEVIL DID'NT WANT ME thank you everyone.
i just wanted you to know i read your comment about dustin. we just wanted to say thank you for having him your prayers. he is on his was to a long recovery but he is going to be ok. most of his damage is on his face and head he has a broken arm. but nothing that cannot be fixed. He is still here with us in the world and that is all that matters. but we just wanted to say thank you again.

Man, Dustin, I was in the traffic jam that you created with your idiotic stunt but managed to squeeze along the shoulder of the road to get past all the traffic.
As I drove past, I saw you there in the middle of the road in your shorts and sneakers, bleeding profusely...staring up into space as if you were looking for heaven. A throng of people had gathered near you, but since they weren't doing much, and the police hadn't arrived, and you weren't moving at all, my guess was that you were dead.
I asked myself how you ended up there. I wondered if you were hit trying to cross the highway after drinking at one of the nearby bars. I thought, "How sad, he looked so young."

Dustin, I'm glad you're alive and I'm sure YOU are too. Take advantage of this opportunity, because I think you saw how quickly it can all come to an end.
Someone once said, "It's not death that scares me, it's the sudden stop at the end."
Nobody knows that better than you! Hang in there, man. Be smart. LIVE your life.

one ghost riding the whip is when the driver gets out... he was the passenger... and two... he is fine and has a bad **** story to tell... we served in the millitary together
Oh wow, we had losers like you serving our country. Wonderful. Too bad he didn't do that on the humvee in Iraq.
No, No, No! You have it backwards. The thing is, He did do it in Iraq, which made him feel invincible here. So he did it here, but it hurt more without all the protective body armor he had on the first time he did it. Plus, asphalt rubs a little harder than sand!!!!
