Tint in SC
We will be moving down to Columbia area in Feb; just wondering what the tint laws are in SC; and perhaps if anyone has a suggestion for a good tinting shop in the Columbia market. I'll assume one is allowed darker film in the south, compared to what we can do up here ( 50 front, 35 rear ).
Looking forward to enjoying our car all year 'round.....
Thx!

sc tint law
South Carolina Tint Law Enacted: 1992
HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN SOUTH CAROLINA?
Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In South Carolina, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.
Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 27% of light in.
Back Side Windows Must allow more than 27% of light in.
Rear Window Must allow more than 27% of light in.
HOW REFLECTIVE CAN THE TINT BE IN SOUTH CAROLINA?
Similar to sunglass lenses, some tinting film contain metallic elements that help in reflecting incoming light and reducing the glare and heat generated by visible light.
Front Side Windows Must be non-reflective, state law is not specific about what this means.
Back Side Windows Must be non-reflective, state law is not specific about what this means.
OTHER SOUTH CAROLINA RULES AND REGULATIONS
Restricted Colors The tint color(s) of RED AMBER YELLOW are not legal by state law.
Side Mirrors Dual side mirrors are required if back window is tinted.
Certificate Requirements Manufacturers of film need to certify the film they sell in the state. Ask your dealer if they are using ceritified film.
Sticker Requirements The sticker to identify legal tinting is required between the film & glass on each tinted window.
Medical Exemption State allows medical exemptions for special tint. For more details about the specific terms of the exemption, consult your state law.

^^ thanks. I'll assume then by going with a "published" tint % of say 30 max that would still cover us legally, as windows have a minimal tint from the factory that should be considered if the officer in question is following rules to a "t".
Info is appreciated.

it's actually the wife's ride; she had 35% all the way around ( applied when car was new in 05 ), and drove like that up until this summer. Thats when she got hit in a sting, and had to correct the front door windows. After all that time ( plus we live near a state patrol office ) she gets popped as we are thinking of the move south. She will be happy to learn she can darken them up again.
And after the round of snow/storms coming tonite ; Feb cant come soon enough.

well you wont have to worry about snow storms down here, doesnt happen often at all, infact I think the last time we had a real snow STORM was back when the east coast got hit with the "storm of the century"

we were actually in SC the first week of Sept; was in Charleston doing tourist thing while everyone was boarding up. Got back to hotel in Cola, and except for some wind and a bit of rain, nothing else took place when the 'cane hit the coast ( our flights were on time as well ). We're not naive enough to think something couldn't hit that far inland; but considering the blizzards, floods, and tornados we can get each year up here..... one gets used to watching the weather channel and planning accordingly...
