Default Please help a new xB owner in Boston! :)

Hi everybody -

I just bought a 2008 xB (take delivery later today), switching over from a battered old Subaru. So excited! One of the first mods I'd like to make is to install a switch to override the navigation lockout while the car's in motion (as documented in this post). After all, I'm going to have a passenger a lot of the time and it doesn't make sense to me to lock out the controls when my passenger could be entering a destination, watching a DVD, etc.

Does anybody know of a shop - or kindhearted person - in the Boston area (even RI or southern NH would be ok) that would be willing to make the necessary modifications? I've already purchased the required hardware, and the SNS is already installed in my vehicle, so it all seems pretty simple... I'm not very good at these kinds of things though, so I'd rather throw a few bucks at someone to do it for me than risk messing things up.

Thanks! -jb

Congrats on your recent purchase. Welcome to the Scion family. I know RAD Customz in Norwood would do that for you. Just tell them i sent you there.

Welcome to the Scion family JB!

I know a few NRG members went to RAD customz like Mike mentioned above.

Did you get the Scion Navigation?

Hopefully I'll see you at events... there is a calendar link in my sig for events in New England and if you are looking for a Scion team to join in the area... check out teamscionrg.com, most of us are on SL here daily.

Try going to Driverside. The are on Rt 1 between 95 and 495. Evan is very good at what he does. He does all my work.

Thank you all for the recommendations! I'll try one of them next week.

Tam: I did get the Scion Nav system... so far I'm liking it, except for the in-motion lockout. Thanks for the heads-up on the Scion teams... seems fun, think I may check it out... even though my xB is still pretty stock right now.

Thanks.... jb

Thanks! It seems pretty easy - just cut one wire and put an in-line switch on another - but it's removing the head unit that freaks me out a bit....

removing it is easy... gutting any part of the scion is pretty simple... everything jus snaps off even if it looks secure.... (=

Thanks, everybody, for the advice... I took it to Rad Customz this morning and they did it in an hour. The switch looks great and works perfectly (although there's a new tiny divot on the center console... it couldn't be helped I guess)... so overall I'm pretty satisfied. Thanks again.
