NY Front Plate Laws

I'm thinking about covering up my front bumper on my SW with some black vinyl. I'd like to move my plate down to the middle of the lower grill because I think it'll look better than keeping it on the bumper after I've put the vinyl on. Does anyone know if there are any laws in NY that will prevent me from doing this?

doesnt ptuning make a relocation kit for the 2nd gen xb? it goes were the tow hook goes.

IN NY, the plate must be located on the front bumper of the vehicle, face the front of the vehicle, and be located at least 12" from the ground.

@TheQuietThings

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I won't be able to put my plate in the lower grill then.

well, you could measure it and figure it out. where is the 1 foot relative to?

one foot from the ground to the bottom of the plate? center? top?

TheQuietThings 11-11-2009 03:58 AM

bottom of the plate.

as far as I know aslong as the plate is visible ur ok. I have mine on the lower grill with a 808 customs relocator. I don't have holes in the bumper so that's as good as its gonna get

i dont think they will give much problems if its on the bottom grill..they mainly care about it being there..i have mine up on my dash and got pulled over on the l.i.e. by a sheriff the other day..kinda rediculous if you ask me..in town i understand but on the most travelled highway on li? for a plate? oh well

rosedaleny806 11-11-2009 07:57 PM

that's retarted, on a hwy is stupid. I understand on regular streets. I had my plate on the window in my volkswagen and I use to get pulled over all the time

Treyz 11-15-2009 11:28 PM

It's considered flagging and yeah, if the right cop wants to, he/she will pull you over regardless of the LIE or local. I used to get pulled over for it on Sunrise Hwy back in the day.

my front plate has been at the bottom of my front bottom on many cars ive had in the past and present. i have never been stopped or ticketed for it. most cops will not stop you for it. its a pointless ticket because you can tape the plate in the middle of the bumper and send a pic in with the ticket or go to court with a pic of it and say you properly mounted it and they will drop it.

I've been running plate-less in the front since september haven't been pulled over yet lol. Cops in my area probably will pick up on it sooner or later, hopefully they wont:pray:.
