STP in JUlY Who's up for it.

Ok, I felt bad for threadjacking the mountain bike topic, so here is a new one for the STP (Seattle to Portland).

It's a lot of fun and very rewarding when you cross the finish line.

If you train it's not that bad and you only want to die for a couple of days afterward. If enough people are interested in riding or doing support for the people who are riding it would be a blast.

Corey Anne if you could post the info again on here that would be great!

Who's up for it? Let's start the list.

you drink and eat soo much on the ride you don't really lose wieght. in 04 my brother came out from st louis to do the ride with me and didn't train like I told him to "I can do anything for 2 days". He almost killed himself finishing. He wasn't going to let his little brother beat him. LOL he ended up in the emergency tent after the ride with dehydration and heat stroke.

You don't have to train as hard as they suggest, but if you aren't riding consistantly you will be in trouble.

zinker 11-02-2006 12:10 AM

yep like the marathon runner I saw just fall from Dehydration didnt get up

DownhillSpec 11-02-2006 03:54 AM

hey i had a heat stroke once... i think i'll support this.

CLAPhoto 11-02-2006 05:57 AM

I'd like to do it.

Question: 1 day or 2 day? I'm assuming we'd all go as a group.. whether or not we stick together the whole time is questionable, since everybody is different.. but I'd assume we start off together. In any case.. 1 or 2 days is my only question. And I think Chris would possibly be interested.

dugzilla 11-02-2006 10:49 AM

anyone who wants to do it in one day is a serious cycler. It is hard enough to do it in two, talking to people who have done it in one it's not fun.

If we start as a group we should end as a group, the main thing is doing the training to be prepared for the ride.

Yeah I went and read the PDF file.. rather than skim.. :P 2-day will definitely be the choice. I think if we keep on top of each other, then we should be able to do it! I also asked a friend if he'd like to do it too.. but he doesn't know yet. He may be going to Newfoundland (he lives in B.C.) and doesn't know when yet.. so.. yeah. And Chris said I'm crazy... I told him okay, but I'm still going! So.. yeah. :P I just need to get a new bike.. my bike is at my mom's and has some bad tires and the chain is demented.. so.. guess that's my next quest.

dugzilla 11-02-2006 11:33 AM

here is the new list:

1 dugzillaxb (ride)
2 zinker (undecided
3 kkawana (support)

DownhillSpec 11-02-2006 01:33 PM

i would ride... but frankly i cant spare the money for a new bike... i sold my old one cause i never used it and needed money for car parts... im gonna try and sucker my buddy into lettin me borrow his quintana roo for a while. if i can i'll ride with you guys.

Derk-xB 11-02-2006 01:50 PM

I'll ride.
I think I'm going to run the Eugene marathon on April 29th, so my cycling training will start then. But, if I have the fitness from a marathon, I should be fine jumping on the bike.

Starting together would be awesome. 200 miles in one day sounds like the recipe for a really sore butt. But, w/ support (i.e. food, drink, toilets) it's probably do-able. The whole deal with getting back to Seattle sounds like something I DON'T want to do after riding 200 miles. :P

My older brother just moved to Ellensburg, I'll see if he's interested, too.

Yeah, that's why the 2-day deal is better! There's a mid-way point where there are a lot of services to utilize as far as sleeping goes (though not free unless people bring tents).. so that's definitely what we'd do. :P

And what do you mean going back to Seattle?? You just have to get back to Portland (and you can take the bus). :P

I'm excited. I need to go do some bike shopping so I can get one and start riding again (though until then, stationary might do). I was going to the gym every day from June to August and haven't been back since then for whatever reason I stopped going.. I've lost all that I worked for so now I gotta get it back.. I've got plenty of time to do it and I love riding bikes.. as sore of a rear end as we may have.. it's worth it. :)
