Default Sunday November 5th, 2006 - Spirit of WA Dinner Train Invite

Hello All,

I'm going to be taking the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train, Sunday, November 5th as a celebration to my birthday which falls on November 2nd and to hang out with friends and have a good time.

I'm basically treating myself to a rail filled weekend leaving Saturday morning to Portland on Amtrak #501, exploring around Portland on Portland MAX, Portland Streetcar and if available, Brooklyn Roundhouse and will return on Amtrak #509 back and Sunday will be a day on the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train.

Anywho for those that wish to tag along, I'd always welcome the company. Those that wish to join me on the Amtrak Cascades trips are also more than welcome to join me for the day out. It should be fun and hopefully the weather will hold tight.

Also some links for you...

Here is the information regarding meeting location and travel information.

I have posted this on several other forums so this is a generic copy and paste.

Scionlife.com - We will be meeting at Southcenter/Westfield Mall near Macy's at 4:00pm and will drive over to the Dinner Train station located in Downtown Renton at 4:20pm. If you miss us at the Mall, the train departs Renton at 5:30pm, so you can always drive over to the station if you do miss us.

Everybody else - Since I know must of you guys aren't into the cruising aspect of it, we'll simply meet you by the F9 where we will all get together for a group photo then board the train. The group photo should be done around 5:00pm

The Train departs from Renton Station at 5:30pm and should be in by 9pm the latest. Parking should not be an issue since we will be there an hour before departure.

I decided to take the Dome seating and will be making reservations for car "Seattle" which runs $78.99 excluding sales tax.

If you have any questions regarding this, please let me know. Before I can make reservations I do need to know how many people are interested.

I also want to state that this isn't just for my birthday but a gathering amoung friends. I don't want this to be solely just because it is my birthday. We are all there to have a great time but I always welcome presents =D

I noticed the dress from previous visits have been casual business or "night out of town" type of dress so be prepared for that.

Other than that, let me know! The more the better.. if we get 30 we can have the upper dome to ourselfs. If we get enough we qualify for the group rate discount =D

Mo & I are interested!

Like I said before, the Spirit of Washington is going to be a sad loss when the close it down. I want to ride at least once more before its gone as it is so beautiful and so much fun.

Post up on the Dinner Train info!

Also...I was looking at driving to see some of my friends in the midwest next spring and Mo found a great Amtrak program that allows one to get on the train and check their vehicle in an adjacent car. I'm looking into seeing if I can railway it across the US and take the green box off at certain locations to drive around.

Awesome, I'm glad you guys will join. I'm doing another run on July 31st which is the offical end date for the Dinner Train... If you haven't heard, Ron Simms has put forward 2.8 Million to secure the line...so the dinner train is effectively, dead

That train is the Autotrain which runs between Lorton, VA and Sanford, Fl. Extremely popular service but it is unfortunately the only Auto Train in service in the United States. Amtrak was going to add the Auto Train to the Coast Starlight which is or should I say, was, the premier train between Seattle and Los Angeles but due to declining ridership and poor dispatching by Union Pacific, that plan has all but been scrapped for now.

^^ BUMP

Mo & I are going to go on this trip before the Spirit of Washington train is gone. So far there are 6 people going. If we get 10, we get the group discount!!!

Who else is interested in a train trip and winery stop (with free sampling)???

P.S. - Macster...I'll go on the July 31st one too!
