A little late on this update since we've been swamped this past week trying to catch up and had to check in a few shipments we received. Did we mention the highly anticipated SP Elite for FRS is now in stock? Oh and the new Multi D/A Gauges too! Please check them out if you have time.
So on with the recap for Seattle...
We arrived at the track on Thursday morning and do our usual routine setting up our paddock area and begin prepping for practice. After being in the East coast for the past 3 rounds, it was nice to stay on the West coast where we didn't incur jet lag or deal with hot humid weather!
No idea what they're talking about but Ken and Scion Racing teammate Tony catching up before things get busy.
Practice is a great opportunity to run against many different competitors. It sizes you up against the field and helps you prepare for competition. It also gives us the opportunity to measure tire wear, fuel consumption, and most importantly try out different set ups.
It also gave us a chance to test fit our new lug nuts. FR-S spec is M12x1.25. Check out the different options we offer here.
Our crew chief Shuji, one of the main guy behind the build keeping a close eye on conditions.
New helmet he's been using for the past couple rounds. Like most drivers, he’s very particular about the design.
Rain in Seattle, go figure…
Scion Regional held a contest where one lucky winner had and opportunity for a ride along in our car. Here’s Eric signing his life away!
Lucky guy! None of the GReddy staff has even been on a ride along yet!
Suspension guru Chris from KW going over set up options before Ken goes out for his qualifying run. We ended up 14th with a score of 83 which put us mid pack in the bracket.
Latest edition of DSport was the secret to our success this weekend!
Our Top32 battle put us up against Kenny Moen. It was déjà vu from Palm Beach Top16 when he knocked us out. The starting light was broken so they went with the old fashion hand signal like drag racing. On the first run, Ken was lead car with Moen chasing. The hands dropped and the cars were off. However Moen was left at the start. The Formula Drift spotter located before the initiation zone will wave a red flag if the run is called off. There was no waving flag so it was an official run, so we assumed. There was a lot of confusion but it turned out Moen thought Ken "jumped" the start. To make a long story short, we had to redo the run but in the end we advanced to Top16.
Top16 was against Yoshioka. He looked very strong all weekend qualifying well and had top speed initiating into the bank. We knew we needed a good performance from Ken in order to advance however Yoshioka’s crew had made a big mistake and forgot to set the hood pins sending the hood into the sky. This resulted in an automatic zero and gave us an advantage going into the second run. Ken had a clean second run sending us into the Great 8.
The Great 8 round was a rematch of our Top16 run at NJ against Grunewald. If you guys recall, Ken ended up spinning out. This time around, Ken was applying the pressure which eventually lead Grunewald to spin out. We are in the Final 4!
Our first time in the Final 4! If we can beat Tuerck, we are guaranteed a podium spot! Not only is Tuerck a strong driver but we’re going up against a V8. V8’s were fast all weekend and we did our best trying to keep up with them. We ended up going “One More Time”. In the end, the V8 powered S chassis was too fast on the bank and the judges awarded Tuerck the win. We still had a shot at the podium as it was on to the consolation match against Rhys Millen.
During the battle for 3rd, both drivers gave a great performance and it seemed forever till they announced the winner. We thought we had a slight advantage for victory but meanwhile in the pits, the crew was preparing for “One More Time”. Finally they announced the winner and it went to Millen.
It was a bitter sweet moment but we were all proud of the results. It was our best result yet and gives us good momentum going into the final 2 event. The car is almost there and we are looking to finish the season on the podium! We learned a lot from this result which will help progress the develop of this vehicle. Currently the car is being torn down while we look for a bigger turbo in our warehouse. Anyone know where we can purchase a NOS kit?
