Does this car use an EJ25 or the stock motor?
|
Due to the limited amount of time, the GReddy Racing Scion FR-S is currently powered by a Cosworth CS600 EJ25 long block and custom GReddy turbo kit with a front-mount intercooler. The EJ25 is a race proven and reliable boxer motor that offers many of the same benefits seen in the FA20 including a low center of gravity. We are currently working on a FA20 motor for use in future race programs.
|
That was what I was expecting. A motor change due to development ease and you guys planning on developing FA setup as the R&D gets completed.
Would be nice if those wheels are an option from Scion...I would be all over those. |
What mods were needed for the swap? Custom mounts or was it a simple drop in?

We found a Winding Road video clip of the big GReddy Racing + Scion Racing FR-S reveal. In addition to Scion VP, Jack Hollis' speech and close-ups of the car, you'll also see some action shots of Ken Gushi drifting the car during early testing. Enjoy..

Any answer to my question?

Syldrin,
The EJ25 motor will mount onto stock sub-frame without modifications. Is this an easy swap? We'll let you be the judge.... Anytime you swap, you're bound to run into challenges. In our case, we are building a vehicle from the ground up so that was a challenge itself. After mounting the motor, some of the challenges we faced were designing and fabricating a custom turbo and intercooler system, to mating the motor to G-Force transmission. We also custom made all fluid lines, modified wire harness and everything in between. Since we're building a competition vehicle, it would be biased to compare our "swap" to someone who may do this on their daily driver. The modification we incurred may not apply to them. You know what we mean? We know you guys are dying to see pictures of the engine but unfortunately we can't release any at the moment because the car is still under development till it debuts on track in Long Beach. Sorry |

Sorry also does the EJ25 bolt up to the AZ1 tranny? |
AZ1 tranny? Is that the stock transmission found on the FR-S?
|
Yea it is.

In regards to stock trans, the comparison we made off a pre-production vehicle showed a different bell housing design so modification is required to adapt to EJ25. We couldn't tell you what modifications are necessary since we didn't actually this but to give you an idea, the starters are on opposite sides.

Guess what was waiting for us in our drive way this morning?

Love that car. Looks so good. Almost too good to be drifted. She doesn't need scuffs

@Syldrin - True that. Gushi's got talent so she's in good hands. We can live with a few battle scars here and there, but let's hope the other cars stay away from her to prevent any major damages:pray:

Really starting to like these cars. Love the white IS-F in the background of the last pic!
|
i would like the rear lights with no chrome, more of a stealth design. did you guys get to enjoy the car stock? donuts, launches, canyons?
