Vivid Racing FR-S

Let me take a few to introduce Vivid Racing and myself.

My name is Michael, I work at Vivid Racing.

I'm here to answer any questions you guys might have about the FR-S/BRZ.

After picking up our FR-S last week and have been extremely excited to bring some details out on our 2013 Scion FR-S project.

To begin our modifying process, we did a baseline dyno on the FR-S. It might have about 40-50 miles on it, so that is probably good as time as any to see how she runs.

The numbers were as expected making 154 rear wheel horsepower and 125 ft/lbs of torque. The car has a nice high redline where you can really take advantage of the power band on the street.

Vivid Racing has a Mustang AWD dyno which of course we can run in RWD. Typically the Mustang Dyno shows a drivetrain loss even on 2wd of about 20%.

So what is the future? Vivid Racing, with our sister company, Agency Power, we plan to dive in to all the basic bolt-ons. Already underway for the car is an exhaust system and carbon fiber aero parts..

So as we begin this very cool Scion FR-S project, we want to hear from you. What you would modify on the car?

Very SWEET! Shared this on another forum already. Can't wait for the final results.

In for the Updates.

VividRacing May 24, 2012 07:15 PM

We are planning on some testing this weekend. Car is going back together now.

Vividracingcom May 30, 2012 06:02 PM

We've got some prototype rear suspension components on the car from Agency Power, as well as a clutch and flywheel from a popular manufacturer. We're also working with a well known brake pad company to get some pads developed. The Agency Power intake and exhaust are coming along nicely. First round of dyno testing was done yesterday.

numbers or it didn't happen. ;)

^lol, beat me to it. Interested to see if the gains from a few bolt-ons. Curious if they are worth it, or if the engine is pretty optimized from the factory and bolt-ons are not fulfilling.

lol I can't post any numbers yet since nothing is final. I can tell you that with the exhaust and intake, we've seen gains through the entire RPM range.

The engine is pretty optimized from the factory, but we've made a little bit of power. Power delivery is a bit smoother as well. And it sounds much better, of course!

Yea that's what I was thinking. Can you divulge the tuning solution you may work with/are working with? Perhaps to tune out the dip in the torque curve starting at 3200rpm.

No tuning solutions yet, I'm guessing the dip in the torque curve is caused by some sort of emissions system. We were able to make torque all the way through the rev range, but the dip is still there. We'll be trying to address this with the bolt-ons.

I thought the ecu was supposed to be unlocked from the factory? Also have ya'll figured out if this ecu "learns" like the tc1 ecu?

The ECU is not locked, it's just that no one has designed the software and or hardware needed to customize the tune.

All ECU's have a "learning" function, pretty much since OBD was invented. As these cars get more advanced and newer they learn more and more. Many automatics will adjust the shifting points based upon how you drive. All cars automatically learn fuel trims to adjust for vacuum leaks and they even adjust for wear and tear on the motor.

If you have any more  don't hesitate to ask guys!

Brakes and suspension. Very interested to see what you guys do. BTW, that Benz is badazz.

I'd start with the engine, then the engine and finally, the engine. :)

Hayes Jun 7, 2012 04:33 PM

Needs to go lower. That's the easy part, then I'm with Fred.

Vividracingcom Jun 7, 2012 04:35 PM

Wheels and suspension are all in the works!
