Default Heating the engine as there is no block heater

I have checked the USA and Canada, and there is no block heater for a Scion iA. I am going to wrap a silicone heating pad around the metal pipe that goes from the water pump to the thermostat towards the thermostat side. I cannot find any other place to put it. If you have placed some type of engine block heater on please reply. I do not want to go the oil pan heater route as we use 0-20W and don't need it there and it won't warm the block very well. Thanks.

There are four types of basic "easy installation" engine block heaters......
1) Engine oil heater.2) Engine coolant heater.
With these two types of heaters, the heating element is placed in direct contact with the respective fluids.

Next, we have two more, these are less well known than the above mentioned style heaters. We have.....

3) Inside engine block heater.
4) Outside engine block heater.

With both these in block and out of block heaters, the heating element comes in direct contact with the engine block metal.

The inside engine block heaters look like a metal rod which is inserted into a hole......these type of heaters are referred to sometimes as "cartridge" heaters.

The outside engine block heaters is a hunk of metal which is shaped to perfectly mesh with the webbing (cast metal) of the engine block....kinda like stacking one Lego on another Lego).

Look for the heater hole on your engine block. If it has one, it will be located on the engine block in an area above the transmission and below the cylinder head.....might have a round plug blocking the hole.

KATS engine block heaters makes great cartridge heaters.

Also, in North America..........you should be looking at engine block heaters designed for 2014+ Mazda2 cars as the Scion iA is actually a Mazda car with Toyota badges.

Gentlemen,

Thank you for the ideas. I have done everything you have said to do. I have called Toyota and Mazda with NO block heaters available for an iA. What I really need is THE answer to install a block heater that will fit onto an engine that doesn't have a factory option. I am currently looking to stick it on the lower part of the block. Thank you for replying!!!

Maybe you can use Mazda block instead?
