Convert Fog Lights To DTRL
NOOB here!!
Just picked up my 2013 IQ and found out that there are no daytime running lights:?. I am getting foglights installed at the dealer next week, can they be converted to daytime running lights? I guess what I would like them to do is come on when the engine starts and be on all the time except when the high beams are active. We have alot of deer activity at night around here and I need all the extra light I can get. It might even be good to have the option to have them on with the high beams active??? Can this be done? TIA Mike |
I'm not sure but this might be a start for you. http://clubsciontc.com/forums/diy-in...ersible-30214/
Or PM surfcitylocal maybe he has some info. |
The method used on clubsciontc looks like it would work great.

I just found a install PDF file for the 2012 IQ and there is no wiring harness provided with the fog light kit, only the relay. If I go with the standard install do you have to turn the fog lights on everytime you start the car? Will they come on without the headkights operating?
I have bad CRS and would forget half the time. Mike |
I have the factory fog lights, they come on when you start the car and turn off when you lock the doors (double click on remote)

Thanks for the info, I guess I won't mess with the standard wiring. Mike |

So now I'm back to my original question: anyone know of a way to mod them so the fogs(with switch on) come on with engine start. Then go off with engine off or, switch off? Even with high beams. I hope there is help out there somewhere!!! TIA Mike |
You would need to locate the power in lead to the fog light switch and change it to a power source that is on when the key is in the ACC or ON position. If you do that the high or low beams will have no effect on them.

So I guess I have "sort of" DTRLs but with tail lights also. I'll run with the low beams and if I really want to light up the little thing hit the fogs also. Plus I don't worry about forgetting to shut them off. I can live with that. Mike |
