That is a damn horrible analogy and you know it. Drums are easy to change and even if you have to replace the hardware and not just the shoes it is not that bad as long as you have a functioning brain. Usually what I see is a two or three to one ratio when it comes to replacing shoes vs pads too.
I guess you did not understand it so lets try it another waywhy use old outdated technology when better is available especially when overcharging for the car as a whole

Because Toyota is increasing their profit line with every iQ sold by using drums in the rear instead of disc. Outside of people like me, you, and other enthusiast no one is gonna give a rats ___ that the iQ has drums in the back instead of discs. For most light weight non performance vehicles a disc/drum setups is completely adequate for the majority of cars. Drum setups on modern vehicles are not the same junk that came on a Mustang II forty years ago and the the technology has been improving the same way everything else in automotive industry has for the past one hundred years. For the price point Toyota could have installed discs in the rear but at the same time I'm not going to be mad at them for trying to make a little extra money in a very small market.

Heck, this car is so small you don't even need brakes. Just do the Fred Flintstone.
It looks like my car will be hitting the port on monday. Soonest I may get it will be wednesday if they release it. I already have the vin.
All I can say is that when I get word that it is on the ground, I will be on the next flight to LA.
I am working with Dianne Whitmire at Carson Toyota. She is awesome and helped me get the exact car I wanted.
Got a call yesterday. My tires/wheels are in and ready to be put on. My TRD lowering springs and sway bar are in also. Now, I just need the damn car.

Apparently, Toyota has delayed the launch yet again. Just when you think that Toyota is going to get their ____ together, they do it again. The new launch date is now Dec. 1st. I only found this out because I called Scion and asked. I guess it is too much to expect them to notify their customers and dealers to let them know and offer an explanation considering that the launch date has come and gone. Apparently they don't give a ____ about their loyal customers that have been with them for many years and many vehicles. Time to start exploring other manufacturers options. I would consider a Yaris, but I am really not interested in a vehicle that is using a powertrain from over a decade ago. Who puts a 4 speed in a vehicle in 2012???
