Official 2011 Scion iQ Thread

I don't claim to know a ton about it, but i think that a CVT keeps the engine in the optimal power range of the engine when you really stand on it, and when you aren't flogging it, it works more for economy. I'm sure that a manual will likely out-accelerate this, but if you're buying a 99HP car, are you really all that worried about performance?

The Toyota version in Europe looked better than this one.
Hmmm?
These type of cars aren't worth the money unless you live in a city and parking is an issue.
I can park my 13 foot xB in tight spaces as it is.

What is that red line there along the center console? If that were to light up or something, that would be a damn nice looking feature for the interior.
As it is, I like the interior of the car so far. Wish some of these design elements had made it to the tC2 actually

should have left the JDM bumper. i don't even like the G-Sports one they copied
no optional keyless start? dash not flipped for left hand drive. and there is no manual for the JDM version. so stop crying about it.

I happen to like the iQ a lot. I think its a great little car and honestly, I'd drive one around the city here just fine.
Its got standard features that the Smart Fortwo doesn't have like A/C, true power steering, and a cd player. Seriously, those three are all OPTIONS on the Smart.
Anyway, the interior is great, blows away the tC2, but I have a feeling that like all the other Scions that the 'gen2' or refresh of this will look lame compared to the original.
Seems like Scion is great at creating new cars, but lousy at updating them.
But at least for now, we have at least one Scion thats eye catching and will bring attention back to the brand the way the xB1 and tC1 did when they were first introduced.

The Sciondimension.com site has a little more info on the IQ now. The pix all show the CVT transmission...no stick-shift.
The press kit, which can be downloaded there as well, makes no mention of anything other than the CVT.
Before I start my rant, let me just point out that the version available in the UK has a manual option. And now, onto the rant...
WHAT THE %$& is Toyota/Scion thinking? Do they really think we're going to be okay with a slow, Japanese version of the Smart Car? Try merging onto an expressway in Pennsylvania with one of these. The merge lanes are nearly non-existent. You'll pull into traffic and discover you will need every one of those 10 airbags really quick.
I had high hopes for this car. I've been putting off replacing my 2005 xA just because of the slight possibility that this car would: a) release and, b) be a peppy little escape pod.
Guess there's no point in that anymore. Way to go, Toyota.
