I was on a website today that had a picture of the scion from the rear view and it doesn't show the brake light in the middle illuminating. I was just wondering if anybody has noticed this or if the pictures incorrect. This is the website it was on:

its a law that every car in the US is required to have a third brake light, and in the picture they just have the lights on and not actually stepping on the brake.

The law is intended for manufacturers though, not for drivers. Car manufacturers are legally required to have third brake lights on all new cars, but there is no law stating that an individual can be punished in any way for not having one. Now, with that said, you actually can be ticketed if you have one but it does not work. However, simply not having one at all is not an offense.

 

^^ it was passed in 1987 or 1989..random lil fact...oh and 2007+ cars are required to have a Tire pressure monitor. when you hear of a car company bragging about extra safety features and they include a TPM, dont tip your hat immediately...

 

that pic is just a DRL light. its not a pic of them pressing on the brake pedal.

 

i didnt either. in illinois as long as you have one working brake light you are good, you just continuously get pulled over to warn that they are out
