paint issue?
ive read many threads on it today, ive been looking through lots and lots of threads on tC's today while at work, seeing as i may get one. ive read alot about the crappy paint that you get when you buy a tc lol...is there still an issue for the 07's? im prally getting the hardest color to keep free of scratches as well (BSP)...lol
any other issue's i should know about/look out for before making the purchase? im getting it in manual btw.
VJ
ps- i like this site alot, and if i get the tC ill be around pretty often

ive put about 1200 miles on my 07 BSP and the only issue i've had so far is a rock chip on the front bumper cover. unfortunately i cant shell out for a clear bra so i will just live with it. My guess is that there has been no improvement in paint for the 07's
man i have read alot of the threads too when they get posted and to be honest w you i have am 05 bcp tC and just recently got a couple of nicks on the paint but kinda unavoidable someones crappy hubcap nicked my front passenger side panel and some small road debris but it when i wash and wax you really cant tell too much and i got some scratch dr. stuff too but no problems here and yeah i really wanted to do bsp but my wife liked the bcp and i really like it too it looks good imo hope this helps and welcome to the SL!!!
Toyota uses cheap paint.
It's not that huge of an issue to everyone, but some people have had big problems with it.
I've had to have my hood and bumper repainted because of rock chips on the freeway here.
Other than those two areas, though, the rest of my paint has been looking great with minimal care.

The tC is too good to be true in some respects, so they gotta cut back somewhere inconspicuous, one of which is the paint. I get really frustrated with my paint, especially because I had an accident early on and the whole right side of my car was repainted by the body shop. Paint scratches from wind i swear.

you know you wont go through with it, taking a BRAND new car to a paint shop and getting a $500 clearcoat job is just plain nuts and wouldnt help anyway
youll post back here in 6 months saying "damn i wish i would have gotten a clear bra"
I love how Scionlife is always such a friendly place.
Anyway, I keep meaning to get a clear bra. I've had the front bumper re-painted twice, once because my dealer's bodyshop screwed up painting the hood, and a second time because paint was peeling--the bodyshop's fault.
My hood has also been re-painted twice. I find it's hillarious that most any bodyshop will swear up and down they 'can't' just spot-paint and color sand for hood chips, because it 'would be noticable.' And then they end up doing just that at a discounted rate, and claim they painted the whole hood.
Sometimes I think the only reason I go back to my dealership's bodyshop is they keep messing up and having to re-paint parts of my car for free.

im curious....do any of you know anything about paint? do you know how it works...do you work in a body shop? are you a painter yourself?
you can not go ranting and raving about bad paint if you do not know your facts.
fact is. scion is a toyota. scion is a lexus. they all have the same paint. there is no cutting cost in paint because 99.9% of paints cost EXACTLY the same.
if you want to argue with me. be my guest. but you better come with proof because i work in a bodyshop. i have owend 2 scions and have worked on countless number of them.

not trying to argue with u... i just have a question to ask..
how can a scion so easy to get such DEEP scratches... even tho i duno what did they do with my car b4...all i know is... i m so disappointed with the paint...
i had my infiniti before....even tho i duno anything about paint of cars...i still think it's very easy to get scratch on scion...
it's just the fact that i can see the different...

when painting a car there is no "quick cost effective method" you spray your base....you let it flash...you spray your clear...you let it dry. there is no "quick" way to paint.
before someone asks...no it doesnt have anythign to do with the amount of coats of clear that is on the car. infact the more clear you put on a car the worse off you are. the MOST clear you want on a car is 3 coats. that is the MAXIMUM and even this is pushing it.
the only thing that could possibly be wrong with the paint, is a flaw in the ingrediants...either a bad batch of clear ingrediants..but if this is so they could take a look at the VIN numbers of these tC's who "suposedly" have paint problems and see if that was the case. obviously there hasn't been enough problems because this has not been done. why do i think this way? simple, i work at a ford dealership. i have seen with my own two eyes this exact thing happen. in 04 roughly 5000 focus's got recalled because of falty product in their clear. guess who was the one who got to mask sand and paint a fair share of them....ME!
just because your car gets scratches from the "wind", doesnt mean the paint is crap. you have absolutly no proof of where those scratches came from, i have scratches in my gold....yes the gold I sprayed on my xB, that i have NO clue where they came from. scratches happen.
now if your paint is truely FLAKING then yes...90% of the time that is a problem in the paint/clear. that or somethinig somehow got spilled on the car..sat on the car. and the chemicals started to peel away the clear.
anybody else have any more questions about scion's "bad" paint. i'd love to prove you wrong.
