is this for a tC or a 1st gen xA/xB?
take off the heat shield, sand it down, seval light coats of high temp engine paint and reinstall. yay
o no.i posted in the wrong spot...what was i thinkig
you can't see the heatshield when the exhaust is on the back of the engine
yeah it's for a tC. a mod will move it i guess.
Stupid scrollbox to move stuff.
OK, it's in the right spot now, after a brief detour to PPC. |
you will want to use high temp paint. Make sure to sand it down though. I forgot to and my paint is chipping off.
thanks gies for all your help and input...all i need is a nice sunny free day
sunny free day? you mean a cloudy day right??
No.
Sunny free. There's no such thing as clouds. Get it right. :P |
your joking right
i need a free day that requires sun...i dont work on the car when it cloudy... please dont be so judgemental just my sense of humor |
Sand down, & use bbq paint. That's what I did, ha. I'm ghetto like that but I haven't had an issue with it at all.
Get some high temp brake caliper paint? Dupli-color sell some high temp engine paint too.
I am thinking of doing this mod as well - painting the heat shield over the stock header. I see that duplicolor has a very limited selection of colors of the 1200F High heat paint. Will the 500F engine paint be good enough for the heat shield? Or do I really need something to withstand a hotter temp? I am looking for a gold color to match the theme I currently have (in my head only at this point :( )
Thanks everyone! |
i actually bought the 1200f black paint....500f seems to low to me i would rather be safe then sorry..
always go with the high temp cause it all depends on the driving condiitons also.. |

Sorry for the threadjack, but can you just remove the heatsheild and paint straight on to the headers with 1200f paint?
i got my paint a my local pepboys ..i didnt remeber seeing gold there..
gotta take off the heatshield..sand it down....pain wait them put it back on... |
I see that VHT has some new products - Engine Metallic and "Fireproof". The Engine Metallic withstands 650F, the FireProof up to 2000!.
My question is - if I painted the heat shield with Gold Engine Metallic (650F) and did a clear coat in the Fireproof (2000F) would that work to protect the paint? Or is it not smart to mix products like that? I ask because VHT has a nice looking gold in the Engine Metallic... |
