painting the valve cover

has anyone try painting the valve cover because the only one that is for sale is the carbon fiber one and i was looking to get a colored one most likely red

it's not hard to paint it. just take it off, clean it, and sand it, then do the painting

high heat engine paint, you can get from any automotive store.

The engine cover, any high heat will w ork as stated ^
The Valve Cover, Duplicolor metalcast works wonders, or you could just get it powdercoated.

high temp paint is a must. Post up some pics if you do it.

Automotive paint also hold up well.. My cover has been painte for over a year with no problems .. Not the best pic but you get the picture. The advantage is, if done properly it has the same finish as the outerbody of your car and looks hot ..

use duplicolor engine enamel 500 degrees. the 500 degrees one shuld be enuff since its only the cover, which doesn't get tht much heat. and use dupli-color adhesion promototer. and clear primer.

My paint guy used auto motive paint due to it’s high temperature tolerance.

i just got mine back from paint a few weeks ago, came out very cool and my guy used all H.O.K products on it

beezyyy 01-09-2006 05:43 PM

Hey scottsdale dc, that is the exact red im lookin for. Is there any way you can find out the exact brand and name of the type of red he used. Would be great if you can. Im planning to paint the engine cover red with the vvti in black or the cover in black and vvti in red. Which one you guys think is better on my FM.

I went to a shop and got mine powder coated....looks a lil nicer to me and it definately can withstand the heat.
