Default Pedestal rear spoiler install

My daughter bought a pedestal spoiler for her '09 tC. I am going to install it for her and I was wondering if anyone had a guide for the installation. There is no spoiler on there now, so I'm starting from scratch. I'm sure I need to take out the inner trim on the hatch to install it,right? I've read arguments about replacing the trunk struts too, is it necessary?

Where did she get the spoiler?

EBay. It came with these install strips, but they don't seem like they would position the spoiler like the template would.

They sell the template separately -

Don't know if it's worth the $26 (+ shipping?) to you to have this. With careful measuring and marking up on the hatch with masking tape, you may be able to do it without the template.

After laying the spoiler on the trunk, it doesn't seem like it will be hard to position it without the template. The edges of the spoiler pretty much line up with the edge of the hatch.

Just do the measuring thing and use the strips. You should be able to make sure they are straight.

Thanks for the input, but I wasn't looking for opinions on different types of spoilers. Obviously my daughter bought the pedestal spoiler because she likes it. I used the strips for the install and it looks great on the car. The only minor problem was that after drilling the holes, they didn't line up with the factory holes under the hatch. I had to drill out new holes to get the bolts in from underneath.

even with the factory install.. you will need to have drilled new holes from underneath.. so what you did was not unusual.

Oh, I thought the factory spoiler would have lined up with the holes underneath the gate.

i would. I also would re-enforce with steel up inside the hatch. Mine was not installed with re-enforcment and i know have to do some repairs if not replace the rear hatch
