re-painting carbon fiber hoods/hatches/fenders?
Stupid question I'm sure, but can the carbon fiber hoods, hatches, fenders be painted easily?
I've seen quite a few that have done a little paint job on the outer edges of a CF hood, but not painting the entire thing. Granted some (lots) would ask why you would want to paint over the CF since that defeats the aesthetic purpose.
But if someone did want to say buy a CF hood, then paint match it back to the color of the car so as to have a stealth CF hood is that do-able?
EDIT: Also, are CF doors really worth the $1600? How much weight reduction would you get from that?

from what i'm told and seen its pretty much about the same prep; they sand it down to get through the clear and then spray and clear like you usually would; once done you will actually see part of the weave through the paint.
C/f isn't for aesthetics but for weight loss. A lot of people paint C/f products to protect the c/f more then leaving it bare and having the clear coat be damaged by the elements. C/f car parts are better painted to protect then anything. Prep involves creating a bonding surface in the C/f matrix and painting, really simple.

The doors are worth it if you track only your car. There are no mounts in the doors for the window seals (not weather tight) nor crash bars in the doors like your stock doors. You will need at minimum a 6-point cage to get side protection in case you get in a side impact and want more than $1600 worth of flimsy carbon fiber in between you and whatever is plowing through the door at you.

you can cage and have them, people paint them when they fade from the sun or if they want the wight reduction bu tdont want their stuff vandalized or stolen, but with that being said just buy fiberglass if you are going to paint it
