I'm having the Toyota Reginal Rep to personally look into the situation in two weeks.

I have replaced the bump stops and it has helped.

The head mechanic has determined where the sound is actually comming from. It's not the strut on the right side, but actually where the glass is laid on the right side. If you open the hatch and gently rock it with your hands back and forth, you will hear where it's comming from. If you "Pinch" where the two pieces of metal sandwich the glass on the right side the sounds disapears. Therefore, when you are extending all four bumpstops, what your doing is flexing the hatch upward and placing more presure where the metal holds the glass. So possibly there is insuficient molding/silicone on the right side of the rear hatch window that is causing the loud clunking noise.

I think the bottom line here is Scion's have a ____ty build, and am sorry I bought one just recently. 2006 TC most rattling and noisy car I have ever had. I also wish people would include photo's that weren't so close up, so newbies like myself can tell what you are pointing out. Sorry!!!
