I live in the TX. Actually the other day I saw someone pulled over. It looked like it was cuz of the smoked tail lights tho. It obviously wasn't for any traffic violations 'cuz the car was just sittin there stopped at a light. I wanna get mine smoked too. Only cuz that super bright red contrasts so much with the flint mica.

http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/Misc/faq/lens.htm

State law Sec. 547.3215 incorporates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, Subpart B, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, Section 571.108, Standard No. 108; Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment. This standard contains the following:
S5.1.3 No additional lamp, reflective device or other motor vehicle equipment shall be installed that impairs the effectiveness of lighting equipment required by this standard.

As a general comment, any device that impairs the required effectiveness of headlamps, taillamps, reflectors or etc is prohibited. The lights, both front and rear, are made by the manufacturer to meet this safety standard. Putting something, particularly something dark would impair its effectiveness.

Personally, I don't think a police officer would pull you over *solely* for smoke taillight covers, but if he/she pulled you over for something else, and they didn't like your attitude (or were having a bad day) it might not help your ticket to have those taillight covers.

Just my $0.02.

Having smoked out taillights is basically like having tint on windows. it is ILLEGAL in almost every state but it is one of those fine lines. Cop in a crappy mood, most likely be pulled over. Cops who have better things to do, you're OK. Just one of those things.

I personally have 20% tint all the way around and, knock on wood, never gotten pulled over for it but if I find a cop who hasn't gotten laid in awhile, I am screwed. Take your chances. I would really like to do it too. sweet effect, especially on BSP.
