Default Sunroof stuck on driver side when opening, and clicks when it closes.

Hello!! This is my first post here so I hope I’m doing this right.

I bought an 06 tC a few months ago, and since it’s been cold and winter weather I haven’t wanted to use my sunroof. It finally warmed up and I hit the button and it does nothing. I took the switch panel off and it was unplugged. I plugged it in and when I opened it, the driver side does nothing, but the passenger side tries to go up. It went up and started to slide back but it got caught and the motor/gears started making a clacking sound. I stopped when it did that and went to close it and I had to push the glass forward on the passenger side. When I lower it all the way it also makes a clacking sound like the gears are stripped or something similar?

is this a common thing? And would it be worth it to try and replace the motor or do y’all think the entire track is messed up? I might take it apart this weekend and see what is going on but I wanted to ask if this is common or not. Any help is really appreciated.

It's known to happen. The track is damaged and needs to be replaced. I found a replacement track on ebay and replaced it myself.
