Default Trunk / Hatch won't open..

Basically, like the subject says... my trunk won't open.

Went to Walmart, put some stuff in the trunk, drove home, and it won't open, doesn't matter how many times I press the unlock and lock button on my key and in the front passenger and driver door.
Nothing is stuck in it, my battery is not dead or anything, the car has 2000 miles on it.

Did a little searching in the forums, only found solutions for the trunk not closing, I'm aware there is an "emergency" way of opening the door, but haven't been able to find it.

Can anyone help me out? I have to take it to the dealer next week anyways but it would be nice if I could open my hatch.

Thanks in advance!

Yank harder. Mine gets stuck now and then after it rains, just yank.

There is a power cable that connects to the button where you open the trunk at.... it is possible that it came undone. It is very hard to reconnect on your own. I know this because I unplugged the power cable once and spent 30 minutes plugging it back in.

If that is not the problem...then it may have shorted itself out. Check on your owners manual to see which fuse # it is connected to. The fuse may have blown.

Push down on the hatch to make sure it's fully closed and try to open it again.

Do you hear the latch disengage when you press the button? I always hear an electronic clunk when mine releases. If you don't, it could be a fuse or something else.

if worse comes to worse, there's an emergency opening latch on the inside of the hatch. I remember reading about it in the owner's manual, but don't remember exactly where it is or what it looks like. But it needs to be there; there was a law to prevent things like trunk kidnappings and children or people being trapped in a trunk.

I can't see anyone getting trapped in the "trunk" of a tC, or any hatchback for that matter, lol.

Back on topic, I'm not sure why it wouldn't open. Keep us updated once it's fixed though.

Ok let me let you know of the emergency way, there are 3 pop off plastic covers on the inside of the hatch pop the middle bottom one off, youll see the motor that opens that hatch there, on the left side there should be something sticking out where you can stick a flat head screw driver and push up that opens up the hatch

I did read the owners manual, it didn't really say much, sorta was like "there is an emergency release, but we aren't gunna tell you where it is"
and im not sober enough to go outside in the cold rain to try the emergency thing out right now lol but will try in the morning...err avternoon...ish...

anyways ya, I tried yanking on it as hard as I could, checked the fuse, nothin.
I just find it kinda strange that that would happen with a low mileage car, and within 2 minutes. walmart is like...down the street from me...
Thanks all for the replies! ill let you know how it goes....

i'm tellin ya it will fix itself. but if you must know where the emergency release is. there is a panal on the inside of your deck lid just fold down the seats and crawl back there. be carefull not to scratch the plastic while removing the panal or break the tabs they're very brittal. i'd suggest waiting it out. it really fixes itself i'd say it's caused by the heat but it's probably not to hot in NY right now.

nope, couldn't be caused by the heat, it was about 45 last night with windd, its 63 out now with of course wind cause of stupid lake ontario...

but anyways, as an update, I just went outside to try it out, tried to open the hatch and bam, it opened....
closed it again, and the trunk locked for no apparent reason. did the emergency thing, which obviously worked, closed it, and then it opened again. closed it, then it wouldn't open. this went on for about 20 minutes after eventually I just gave up.

my hatch basically has a mind of its own lol
which means, its dealer time... ive got a nice long list for them....

Thanks everyone!

Two and a hlaf year bump from the dead, I know, but has anyone be able to figure out what's going on? My hatch is doing the same thing. I opened it with no relative problems and then close it but when I tried to open it again...nothing.
