Wire Sidemarkers and Foglights to Parking Lights?
 

Does anyone know how I can wire the foglights so that they are operable when the parking lights are on?

Also how can I wire the sidemarker lights to be on all the time when the parking lights are on?

The side marker reference is my project for the weekend. If I get through it, I'll post pics and write some instructions. It should only take about 10 minutes per side.

I'm about to do this myself - I'm gonna set it up so I can switch back to stock pretty easily.

you can pm G-Nizzle and ask him about the fog lights...as for the side markers he sells a kit that allows the sidemarkers to run with the parking lights and it still flashes with the turn signals...

Ok...I did it last night. Here are the steps needed...and not kit required :lol:

1. Jack up the front (I did one side at a time)
2. Remove the 2 snaps and 1 bolt holding the fender liner in place
3. Pull the fender liner down enough to reach behind the side marker (from the inside) and twist off the light socket
4. Cut the negative wire completely
5. Strip the Negative wire on the end that is connected to the light socket
6. Solder a new wire to the negative that you just stripped
7. Run the wire through the fender well, up to the engine compartment by the headlight on the respective side you are working on
8. Remove the light socket from the turn signal
9. Strip (DO NOT CUT) the wire that sends power to the parking light (There are 3 wires: 1. Negative 2. Signal Power 3. Parking Light Power). I believe the wire was green with a red stripe. Use a Circuit Tester to confirm.
10. Solder the new wire you just brought to the engine bay to the stripped Parking Power wire
11. Replace everything back just as you took it apart.

So here's how it works:

When parking/head lights are off - There is no power to the side marker, so they stay off. When you signal, the new wire you ran to the parking lights acts as the negative since they are off, and power comes through the normal positive connection on the side marker, so they signal as normal.

When parking/head lights are on - The new wire you ran to the negative on the side marker acts as the positive, and the original positive wire acts as a negative since there is no power coming through, thus keeping the side markers lit constantly. When you signal, the original positive wire on the side marker turns positive, and the negative, which is now also positive, make the ground absent. This makes the side marker blink off and on in opposite relation to your actual turn signals.

I thought you could take the sidemarker off without having to go at it from behind like that. Anyone know?

I'm sure you can. I just went in that way since I had to remove the fender liner to run the wire up to the Parking Light.

ok so now the $64,000 question is how much of a _____ would it be to do the rear side marker lights the same way?

same thing Wheel See, except wired to the rear blinker, when I cleared and flush mounted the red side markers, I wired them that way (but not my front fender lights)

Yup...should be the same process. Just cut the negative on the rear side marker, and run a positive line to it from the positive line in the rear signal tail light. It will go on as normal, and alternately blink off as your turn signals blink on.

and is it pretty easy to get to the rear side marker...

take off the 10mm bolt in the fender lip and pull the side of the bumper out from the body, reach in and undo the 10mm bolt/washer combo nut - then the lens can be pulled out.

(BTW - if your lens light burns out - you can't replace the bulb - you have to get an entirely new lens housing from the dealer... the bulb is not removable. Take it out and you'll understand what I mean.)

oh yeah... my same first thought. I really think that light was an afterthought - the designers forgot to put it there for the US market (JDM's don't have it) and they just threw something on there - and it looks like it too, just a big red lens sitting ON the bumper. But back on topic - there are just two wires in the harness there too, wire the same as the directions above.

ok...yeah I've always thought that it looks rather Auto Zoneish too...it's huge and doesn't flow well with the rest of the car...is it a safety requirement? why even put it on the car
