07 tC 5th gear acting up. Help..

So I recently purchased a 07 tC car over all was in decent shape. Was side swiped but clean other wise. Paid 500.00

The guy i purchased it from told me 5th gear came out on highway on him and it scared him and he never touched it since.
So I drove it and if I held the shifter into the gear it worked fine but upon deceleration or lightly letting of gas it felt like the whole shifter was dropping down and forward.
As I lightly reapplied gas I can feel it push the shifter back up and towards me. It only happens in 5th no other gear.

Just this morning it kept pushing the shifter out of 5th gear and grinding even if I was holding it. Anyone have any insight this, never seen an issue like this before.

Here's some info that's probably relevant. bbsciontc has performed the repair however recommends buying a used transmission. Repairing your existing 5th gear may not require dropping the tranny but it's still a tricky fix. The thread is old and most, if not all photo and video links are dead.

Interesting he talked about the nut being loose so maybe that might be all it is, but still unsure on why I can feel it moving up and down upon deceleration and acceleration.

Wish I could help you more but the most I've done to the transmission is change the gear oil.
