Do any companies make 6-speed trannys for the tC yet. Any for the Camry/Solara that would fit?

im guessin that you are in complaint of the short 5th gear?
why not just swap out the 5th gear. im sure its the same tranny used in the I4 camry. the camry should have longer gears.
although the I4 tacoma uses the same engine, you might be able to swap a 5th gear from that tranny... maybe is my gues.

The Camry just has a longer final drive gear, but yes that is a good idea since it would be fairly easy to change and it would solve the problem of both the short first gear and the high engine speeds on the highway. Although if you do this your acceleration will be about as bad as a Camry, but I still think it's a good idea since I don't race my tC anyways and I definitely plan on doing it.

Just change the last gear. If you're afraid of it being too slow for your tastes, no one really uses 5th gear to accelerate or "race" in anyways.

I kinda like the 5th gear where it is in terms of ratio, but it would be nice to have an extra overdrive gear for those long drives to aid in fuel economy. It seems 3200rpm is too high for cruising speeds.
Also in the distant future, it'd be nice to have once I decide to place on FI. Although I'd probably get different (longer) ratios altogether to handle the power increase and maximze speed while staying under redline (assuming they find a way to disable the damn 130mph cutoff).

There will most definantly be new ECU's and such coming out to get rid of the govaner and maybe raise the rev limiter.

I know that Toyota currently has 3 6-speeds that are for front-wheel drive cars.
The C60, C65M & V160; it sure would be nice if one of these were compatible with the 2AZ .
C60 - Celica
C65M - MR2
V160 - ???
Although the V160 has higher ratios than ours (quicker to redline?), either of the C-series would maybe be good for FI, if they fit. Not sure though, kinda new to trannies, but learning fast.

I got the info from here. I'm not sure about the C65M since it's from the midengine MR2 (not sure if this makes a difference) but would it be possible to mate the C60 from the Celica to the 2AZ? Are the bolt patterns similar?

I am afraid you are SOL buddy, like we all are, for a 6spd unless you help me find 10 people willing to lay down some serious cash, then we can get our 6spds built, with LSD and stronger internals.
Nothing else will fit, it has been looked into very very intently.
You cannot just change out the 5th gear( as some suggested) the pinion gear is machined into the output shaft so you have to change that as well.
The Camry box has the same crappy ratios as the TC with the exception of having a 3.94 final drive instead of our 4.24.
Sorry, I am trying to get ten people together but only a couple are actually serious enough to lay down the cash and be pateint enough to make this happen.

Probably not from what I can tell, seemed so at first but I stopped pursuing this some time ago.
We really do not need a 6spd with the wide powerband of the 2AZ, a 5sd is plenty and for drag racers more than enough.
We just need better ratios in what we have.
