burning oil? or am I paranoid?

aeolus8 was just making his point about the quality of Toyota's/Scion's and the reason he bought his xB. I own the same car and it uses oil, not enough to qualify for the TSB issued concerning the piston/rings, but more than any car I've ever owned in my 40+ years of driving!
The owners manual states that 1 qt. every six hundred miles is normal? Now, with the TSB about bad pistons they changed their mind and it's 1 qt. in 1200 miles and they will fix it if you are under 60k. In other words, with in the warranty period!
Toyota knows that there is a problem with the parts used, so why not fix the problem they created and not push the cost on to the consumer!! Bad press will cost them more in the long run than fixing the troubled vehicles.
I guess I'm silly, but when I purchased my Scion I should have received dependable parts, I believe it's Scion's turn to pick up the tab to correct their errors!
