On the TRD post, I believe TRD is now owned by Toyota. I think they have been for the last 6+ months.

It has ALWAYS been owned by Toyota. that's why he posted that it's a subsidiary (which means that Toyota made TRD as an add on company. That is why it's called TRD (Toyota Racing Development).
I don't mean to sound like a _____ but this is just to clarify.

OK, OK Whoever didn't know TRD is owned by Toyota does not deserve to have a tC, I'm sorry I am a _____ when it comes to Toyota!
Anyhow if i were looking in to buying an Exhaust for my tC, I'd go with the Injen, the TRD one is too expensive, and does not give much of a performance boost.
I'd just get the Supercharger and the Strut Brace just so I can put the TRD emblem on my car. hahaha

Hey this is my first post, I just got my tC and LOVE it, I'm looking to modify it, and want exhaust that isn't super loud more of a low deep rumble.
What is looking good and sounding good for the tC? Let me know, I'm really excited to start this project.

I recommend the one of the Tanabe exhausts, havent seen any tests on these, but a friend of mine has one on his tC, really nice, deep tone, and is under 93db the whole rpm range.

You need to quantify such statements;
Type of meter used?
A or C weighted?
Distance?

Measurements without tolerances are useless.

most of that comes directly from their website
they use SAE testing to get their numbers.

isn't 10-15hp gain a little optimistic? I thought that axel-backs only give you about 2hp...and cat-backs give about 5-7 maybe...am i missing something?

That's exactly what I'm getting at, I'm not aware of any SAE "standard test procedure" for measuring exhaust noise, nor other standardized test for such that any group of manufacturers have agreed upon. Even the CHP (who write tickets for "excessive exhaust noise") doesn't have a published procedure that I can locate, nor trained and properly equipped officers to measure the dB level they're citing as being beyond the legal limit.

If you or anyone else can provide linkage to any organization or manufacturer that states how they measure exhaust SPL, I'm sure that'd be appreciated.

Per California Vehicle Code 27151(b), SAE J1169 May 1998 is the official test procedure.

I'm still looking for a published document of SAE J1169, but I believe the testing measurements are 95dB (A-weighted) 20 inches from the exhaust exit at nominal operating RPM, in our case it would be 2500-3500 RPM.

Or something like that.

i'm thinking about either purchasing the tanabe concepct g exhaust or the hks carbon ti exhaust system, but i'm not sure which will give me better numbers and won't let exhaust burn go onto my rear bumper

good luck getting 10-15 hp from an axelback! maybe if you put a decimal point in the middle of each of htose numbers it will be more accurate (ie.. 1.0-1.5 hp)
