coolant temperature sensor? or thermostat?
my check engine light came on, so after goin to autozone, it was either one of 3 possible things, all related to coolant/cooling.. the guy said, coolant level may be low, thermostat may be bad, or coolant temperature sensor may be bad.
my car hasnt been overheating at all, and i have plenty of coolant in my reserve tank, so that eliminates those two and leaves the coolant temp sensor i guess?? anyone replace this? or know what it does or how it will affect my car?

Did u replace your thermostat with a colder one. I replaced mine with 140 degree thermostat and It said the same thing I drove around a little more and went away ...but I ended up getting a higher thermostat anyway just incase

first what model do you have. and i would do both. the coolant sensor can get a chaulky past the will cause the sensor to malfuction. the thermostate can get slightly stuck open causing that paste to form. i would replace all the coolant. replaced the thermo and temp sensor.

it's not a reserve tank, it's an OVERFLOW tank, meaning too much coolant when not needed... which means you do have enough coolant still lol.
as for the sensor, i would advise going to the "service manual" section on this site, it will give u diagnosis / servicing instructions on parts of the car.

My 2008 XD is running great but I have a problem and think it may be the "coolant temperature sensor. The red temp light comes on blinking and then stays solid for a bit and then blinks and then goes off. During this time the AC air stops being ice cold and blows out like a fan would. Then when the light goes out, the AC picks back up and blows cold. Then a few 100 feet down the road it does it again. The car is not overheating. It has a new waterpump and thermostat. Could it be the CTS?
Any advice is surely welcomed. Also I could not find the service manuel section on this site?
Thanks
