it would just clean your engine, premium has detergents in it to clean away gunk build up. I always run premium once in a while, keeps your engine in tip top shape.

edit: I also get better gas mileage on premium

Alot of xB owners I know have thrown this question around. An owner I know in Texas City uses Super Unlead religiously. He got the TRD racing package xB and that's his reason. I use both, depending on gas prices. I try to stay with 'Brand Name' Fuels.
Chevron, Shell, Valero, etc. Hope that helps

running premium constantly is just a waste of money, but it does nothing bad to your car. I feel no performance increase, but if you have performance parts then you should be using premium

ok so there aren't any risks? my dads company pays for our gas, so with that being the case (not having to pay) should i just fill it up with premium from now on? if so, is it ok to just mix it in with the standard ive been using? should i wait for my gas light to come on before starting this (if its ok)?

Yes you can mix.

Don't run your fuel so low the light comes on

Can you pay for my gas to?

F/I, Nitrous or higher compression engines need 91+ Octane. The stock tC does not.

first - In reference to detergents, read this
http://www.toptiergas.com/

second - USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION!!!

Of the companies that are on this list are none of them close to me. Guess I'll just be sticking with Exxon/Mobil, Hess, and Sunoco. I guess it's time I throw in some 91 octane to clean my 2AZFE out. I've been using 87 for the past 6,000 miles.

There is no specific detergent package in premium. There is nothing wrong with 87 for a stock tC. This has been discussed thousands of times.

I want to claw out my eyes when I see these threads.

regular 87 has enough detergents in it.

it mostly falls down on the brand... you want top-tier gas stations like 76, Shell , and Chevron being the big names.

there are some other ones too... using cheap brand gas will hurt more than anything... as far as octane... anything more than 87 is mostly a waste of money.

it's not a waste of money since she said it's free, so I don't see why not.

That's simply not true, and certainly not quantifiable.

How, exactly, did you come to that conclusion? The only difference between the different octanes is how difficult it is to combust. In theory, you could probably lose power using premium since it's harder to combust. There are no advantages that I know of to be had from running premium all the time. DON'T BOTHER.

My goodness I must agree with nig nig the conquerer...........87 has the same detergents in it as 92............only in old carburated cars with compression needs do you need higher octanes.............short of the Corvette or Viper........there is no real need to add 92...........maybee afew more cars for arguements sake....but it is harder to combust high octane.............the computer in our car and many others will not advance the timing enough to pop it off fully..........resulting in a fouled CAT...........been there done that...........

keep drinking the punch, or better yet, show us some evidence to back up your point

As a matter of fact, I'll paypal $10 to anyone who finds any conclusive proof that running 93 octane in a car that requires 87 will yield better performance, like higher gas mileage, higher horsepower or faster 0-60 times. This means from a reputable source, not "my dad said that...."

here's a clip from the first link that google turned up http://theserviceadvisor.com/octane.htm
"DOESN'T HIGHER OCTANE GASOLINE HAVE MORE CLEANING ADDITIVES THAT ARE GOOD FOR MY ENGINE?

No. Government regulations require that all gasoline contain basically the same amount of additives to clean the injectors and valves. The only differences are the type to help create the different octane ratings. All gasoline burns at the same rate, it is the additives that create the different octane ratings for the different types of engines."

I know it's not a perfect source, but it's the first one I found. To the 93 octane club, you're up.
