Got a problem need help quick

So I was going through my tc doing regular stuff getting ready to turbo it and I noticed oil on the thread of my spark plugs. What is causing this tc is bone stock right now.

SokaltC 08-25-2011 01:41 AM

Please dont tell me a head gasket, car has 84xxx

BeloZero 08-25-2011 02:18 AM

It's not the head gasket, the only thing I know will do that is the valve cover gasket. It's an easy fix. If it was the head gasket or the piston rings, it would be smoking and probably see more oil. Goodluck, hopefully you can get it fixed

If you do change the VC gasket, make sure you get the torque specs from scion and use a star pattern to tighten the bolts back down. If you mess that up, you'll end up doing it all over again.

Could it be antiseize? Our cars have an all aluminum head

mrexotica 08-26-2011 12:16 PM

Nope

SokaltC 08-26-2011 02:31 PM

What do you mean antisieze? And I have another problem it sounds like really loud gear whine at 2000-3000 rpms then it goes away. Any ideas?

thetruthtruth 08-26-2011 04:12 PM

if its engine oil its most likely coming from the manifold gasket, check it to make sure its line up properly. I accidently had a piece of my gasket not tucked into its grove, well i drove like that for 5 min before the smoke started pluming. to say the least my whole engine bay was covered in oil lol

gear wind noise can be rasp coming from the exhaust, prolly needs new resonator.

mrexotica 08-26-2011 06:17 PM

How could gear whine be rasp from the resonator?

Have you ever changed your trans fluid?

mrexotica 08-26-2011 06:19 PM

Also, if you turbo an 84k mi car without making sure the Drivetrain is in perfect shape, expect problems.

SokaltC 08-27-2011 01:54 AM

Thats why im going through and checking everything, I dont know if the transfluid has been changed i picked the car up at 79000 I have not personally dont it.

SokaltC 08-27-2011 01:55 AM

resonator in perfect shape, car came from florida so zero rust on any part of the car and the exhaust is solid went through and checked it.

mrexotica 08-27-2011 03:36 AM

Now would be a good time to replace the timing chain & check compression.

SokaltC 08-27-2011 03:49 AM

And if the resonator was bad wouldn't I hear it at any rpm?

the timing chain doesnt need to be changed at all. it doesnt have a service interval. i have never seen one go or stretch, im not saying that itll never happen but its not likely.

SokaltC 08-27-2011 02:11 PM

I didn't think the timing chain needed to be changed either that's why I kinda ignored that statement.

BeloZero 08-28-2011 01:01 AM

have you looked at the friggin VC gasket yet. im willing to bet thats your problem

SokaltC 08-28-2011 03:49 AM

Yeah it didn't look like it was that bad I am putting it back together tomorrow

BeloZero 08-28-2011 08:15 AM

did you get a new one? i dont think you can reuse that gasket

SokaltC 08-28-2011 12:59 PM

Yes bought a new gasket would never reuse an old one.
