Had Tsudo Header and Spipe installed...Now CEL and running in limp mode.

Hey I just had a tsudo 4-2-1 header installed yesterday and my car is running in limp mode and has a CEL. The antifouler that came with the header is installed and im still having this issue.

I reset the ECU a number of time and that did not help. The car wont make it over 3000 rpms and is idling really low and stalls if i dont give it gas.

Do you guys have any ideas what could be going on? My best guess is that it has something to do with the O2 sensor. Its at the dealership getting diagnostics run right now.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

this is a common problem with headers, even tho u have a anti fouler u still run the risk of a CEL. There might also be a chance that you damaged your 02 sensors.

good luck

JoeyC20 06-18-2011 04:05 PM

Yea thanks. I just got a call from the dealership. The code P0037 is running and they say that my car is running really rich. He said its from the second 02 sensor. He said that the MAF is damaged and they can replace that part and the car will run fine but still have a CEL until i get a new O2 sensor bypass on the one for the spipe. Im not quite sure what to do.

What do u guys think?

SandMPerformance 06-18-2011 05:36 PM

ok, the code you are showing is for the heater circuit on the o2 sensor. if it were a problem with the header it should be showing a catalytic converter code or p0420. i'm thinking there is something wrong with your o2 sensor. what kind of antifouler are you using? is it the bung that pulls the o2 sensor away from the pipe or an electrical trick?

SandMPerformance 06-18-2011 05:37 PM

also, I cannot figure out how your MAF sensor is related to this problem.....

Gutling 06-18-2011 05:58 PM

Just to make sure, you put the anti-fouler on the second o2 sensor right? I have seen someone put it on the first one before

JoeyC20 06-18-2011 06:06 PM

The antifouler i have is the one that came with the tsudo header. Its the L shaped bung. It is placed on the second 02 sensor.

I just picked up my car and its running fine now. I still have the CEL so i think i need to try a new bung or something. They replaced the MAF and it seems to be fine now. Maybe my MAF was messed up to begin with? I have no idea.

SandMPerformance 06-18-2011 06:08 PM

got me on that one...

Gutling 06-18-2011 06:10 PM

No exhaust leaks? dont know what else to look for. I have a similar Lshaped anti fouler on mine and never had a cel or problem out of it. But glad the maf fixed it running bad.

what header are you running on?

Weapon R 4-2-1

JoeyC20 06-18-2011 07:04 PM

Thanks yea im pretty sure the weapon r and tsudo are the same design and everything. NOt quite sure whats going on but ill try and figure it out. If anyone else has advice please let me know.

Thanks

You can try going to an autoparts store and pick up spark plug anti fouls #42002 or #42009, then drill out the hole on the inside with I believe a 1/2 inch drill and add it onto either end of the elbow anti fouled to extend the distance the o2 sensor is from the downpipe. Often times, even with the elbow antifouler, you'll need to extend it with certain headers, especially the 4-2-1.

Maybe your o2 sensors gone. Mine burned out after 130,000 miles.

JoeyC20 06-18-2011 09:28 PM

Thanks. Yea im gona try that trick. I guess its possible the 02 sensor is shot but wouldnt they be able to tell based on a diagnostics test if that were the case?

KiKaZ-tC 06-18-2011 09:34 PM

Hey Joey,

I would just spend the few bucks it cost for the spark plug anti fouls, much better then spending $150 bucks for a new o2 sensor that you may not need.
The spark plug anti fouls come 2 in a pack, I would only drill out one of them, leave the other one just in case you need to restrict even more air from getting to the o2 sensor.

how long did u reset the ecu for,i usually do it for like 20 mins......then let the car idle for another 15 mins then take it for a run,

JoeyC20 06-18-2011 11:24 PM

I didnt do it for that long maybe i will retry resetting it. Its running okay now so im scared to mess with it. If that doesn't work then ill try the antifouler trick. Thanks again

update?

gotta do it at least 15-20 mins to wipe out the old data like any bad programming from the sensors,so when you start fresh it will read the new info and the car will run alot better...i know u only reset the ecu for like a min or two if the cel is on,but if the car isnt runniing correctly and u fixed the issue, reset the ecu by disconnecting the neg terminal, for at least 20 mins, then start it up and let it idle for 10-15 mins....

JoeyC20 06-19-2011 08:39 PM

Ok ill do that. No updates yet. If the CEL continues im taking it to the shop tommorow and having them look at the second 02 sensor to make sure its functioning properly. Ill let you guys know how it goes.
