Default Headers make the scion tc sound like a fart machine ?

I was just at my dealership with my scion and i was asking around about a header ?
Some guy told me you dont wanna put a header on your scion tc because theh have to take out the resonator with he stock header, so when an aftermarket header is put on it sounds like a fart can ( especially with a trd exhaust) which i have. Im wondering if this is true or not. Greatly appreciated if somebody can tell me anything ?

The stock header has a cat in it, not a resonator. The resonator is in the midpipe. But he's kind of right at least... any of the aftermarket headers with (almost) any of the aftermarket exhausts will probably sound like crap.

However, if you go to a muffler shop and have them weld in a better (larger) resonator or two, it'll quiet right down to normal. At that point, you might as well get a full custom midpipe with high flow cat and better/larger resonators.

It doesn't sound bad at all. It just a little louder.
My best friend said it sound the same as stock.
he ride in my car about once a week.
Now i have Supercharger, it whines a little now

i guess everyone who said headers sound crappy, must cause by the aftermarket fart can they putted on.

I am running an Injen CAI, Monster Motorworks Header and S-pipe, and the Dezod 2.5" N/A Cat back exhaust with an 18inch resonator...There is no rasp and no fart can sound.

So guess my 30 inch resonator will do the job.

After I got my header in, I thought that it was gonna sound very bad...but it sounded really nice. It was deep and rumbled nicely. I love the sound. Thanks to my 30 inch resonator and my HKS Hi-Power exhaust. It was the best decision to buy my HKS Hi-Power exhaust.

I have just found the Tanabe G exhaust, it has 93db, what is that compared to the stock? Does anyone have one on their auto? I think it would be a much cheaper solution to all of the pipes and such.

you will still need a resonator even with the Tanabe, that lil 10" canister cannot quiet a header...

haha, I can always tell when a tC has a header. Sounds like @ss when it drives by... this guy I know has MMW header with custom piping/ no CAT: that was one of the worst sounds Ive ever heard.

I'm curious, how does a resonator tone down the sound without restricting airflow, and thus eliminating any power gains?

Through reflection, by bouncing off walls and canceling each other out.

The diagram is weird in the sense that the entrance and exit are on the same side instead of opposite sides, but it will give you an idea.

Ya, it all comes down to building the mid pipe correctly if you want a somewhat quiet car while using a header.

2.5" mid pipe
2 resonators
1 HF Cat
