Default HELP! Clicking noise from engine bay

To start off, I did use the search to fine other threads that might address this issue but I was not able to find anything.

That being said, I drive a 08 tc with about 80k miles on it. Fluid is all good and up to date, new belt, fuel injection cleaner, usual basic maintenance etc.. My car is starting to have this faint clicking noise that is coming from the engine bay. I thought it was a valve knocking but its not because the sound doesn't sound like it is coming from the cylinders. I used a stethoscope to confirm that. It sounds like it is coming more from the pulley side where the belt is. It only occurs during idle at all temp, cold start, after a drive, etc. Water pump is not leaking. No oil leak or spill. I checked everything!

The sound is like a faint click noise that goes click click click and goes away for like 5 seconds, and comes back but on different intervals. Sometimes longer, sometime more then a few clicking noise. Its hard to record the sound because the engine sound is much louder but I will try again.

Thanks in advance!

I don't think the MAF would have anything to do it with since its on the other side of the engine bay. But I will check it out anyways. Thanks for the fast response

Do you have an upgraded clutch and/or LW flywheel? I've had the same noise and turned out to be coming from the clutch. Only happened after I upgraded from stock. On my 3rd clutch now (1st was stock and no sound, 2nd was Exedy Stage 1 w/ Fidanza flywheel installed by Toyota and horrible sound, 3rd is the new CC stage 4 from Dezod installed by a local shop and slightly better). Sound went away with the clutch pressed in.

I have not thought of that. I will try to notice if the sound goes away if the clutch is pressed in. But I am running on stock clutch that was replaced once by toyota about 10k ago so I don't know if that going to change anything. Thanks for the reply!

possible water pump, bearing is failing,, just remove your belt and check for any play or noise while turing pump pulley..

Sorry guys, Its been awhile but I am still having the same problem. I am starting to believe its my belt tensioner that is going bad. Today I noticed something new which caused the noise to be even louder. I had my AC on and all the sudden it start to hear a loud clicking noise during idle and driving on the freeway. It went like click click click clack clack clack click click... It is audible inside and very loud out. It would go away when i turn off the ac but the faint clicking noise is still there. Can someone confirm this?

Yes the air is cold. AC works fine but it sounds bad when it engages, there is a super loud clicking noise from the pulley side on the engine where the belt and crank is. The belt is tight and there doesn't seem to have any play on the pulleys like waterpump and alt.
