anyways, as everyone stated, manuvering the steering wheel at low speeds or a dead stop was a pain, but i could live with it because i liked how the car wouldnt jerk as much into turns at higher speeds. with the power steering, wheel seemed really jerky and sensitive at high speeds, but now its more precise. i loved it a lot, it doesnt jerk around on the highway either!

i dunno if its a placebo affect or if the car really is different (esp at low speeds), but its there to me and i like it. also, the engine seems to run smoother without having to run the P.S. pump
I'm glad you like it...its a shame that people can't shut-up about the 'annoyances' of no PS. Especially those that drove a non PS car for a whopping day. You will get used to the dead stop turn, all you have to do is leave yourself some space and turn with a little movement. And you will be pleased with the arm strength you will gain over time.

Very True Indeed!!!
If you really want to do this, have you checked into a manual rack for this application?

You can run a tape measure around the pulleys you want to use to get an approximate belt length. Also make sure you get the right amount of grooves. You won't like it long without the power steering tho. Good luck with that.

Isn't trying to steer with no PS able to be approximated (at least while sitting still) by turning the key past lock, but keep the engine off, and trying to turn the wheel? Now THAT's an exercise. I can't imagine what it'd be like if you have high performance tires as well.

I have a 1966 Mustang Fastback that cranks out about 350 and believe me - power steering is something you would want put on - not remove!

I drove my old 3000GT without power steering for about a year and had no problem AND I was on 275 tires so yeah...not sure if there is any comparison at all but its really not that bad. You totally get a better feel of the car.

But I didnt do it by choice. The pump was broken and I just never changed it.

Power gains, no. But definitely more response in throttle and quicker rpm climb. I have pulled off the power steering from an 89 Integra and looped the rack so what little fluid left in the rack would help lubricate the one seal that's in there. I'm sure same goes for the rack and pinion in our little Scions.
Felt great to drive without PS. Can't imagine the tC being that heavy.... Driving without power steering is definitely a lot more enjoyable at speeds, than with PS and having to making little corrections in the road constantly. Yeah, it may kind of suck when you're trying to parallel park but anything over 5mph,
you can easily turn the steering wheel.

What do you have for forearms? Limp noodles?... It does not take that much effort to steer in these tiny cars without PS. Lol
