My car is bogging after cleaning battery terminals.
So I just finished cleaning my battery terminals since there was acid building up. I used baking soda and water to clean the posts and terminals. I put grease as I was told. I started up the car and took it for a test drive and it died before I can even pass my block. I started it up and drove it back home, cleaned it again and this time I removed the grease... Same thing happened. My friend told me the baking soda and water might have leaked into small crack into the battery which might have neutralized the battery. He told me to disconnect the terminals and wait an hour and try connecting it again and so I am waiting right now.
Can someone please help me? I hope its nothing too serious :nails: |
When you started it back up did you let it idle for 10 to 15 minutes before driving it? If not, that's what you need to do. Once it has been disconnected, the ECU has to relearn the air/fuel each time.
So if that is the case - you will want to disconnect it one more time for a minute or so. Then reconnect it, start your car and let it idle for 10-15 minutes until it idles normal again. |
yeah, I allowed it to idle for about 12 minutes both times. When I started it up the car was shaking and when I drive it off, it would die.

Sounds like it didn't finish learning yet. It can sometimes take 20 minutes or so.

I let it idle another round and it died before it hit 10 minutes. Later on I decided to rev it for a while and now it runs like normal.

Might want to just re-check your terminals AND the cables because I've seen shiny clean terminals with corrosion hidden inside the wiring. It's probably the ECU relearning as previously mentioned (though I've done this many times and never had an issue). Didn't mess with the MAF sensor did you?

I didn't touch the MAF at all. Just the terminals and the battery.
The funny thing is I disconnected my battery many times before and this is the first time my car bogged and died. |
