Default overheating code P0420 and random brake light, burnt plastic smell and brake fluid sm

My Scion tC 2006 has a code P0420 and has a burnt plastic smell? It also randomly flashes the break light sometimes and I can smell brake fluid I think?

The car randomly overheats and drops etc. I have no clue what's going on.

Please help...i fix my own cars and don't pay shops. I got pretty good at fixing my BMW e39.

Overheating is normally due to
Bad Thermostat
Coolant leak
Broken fan
Failling water pump or
Headgasket.

And have you check your brake fulid? If its empty the you have a leak in one of the lines.

The code is for the cat. Either most of the time ots the rear o2 sensor and not the cat.

Are your fans turning on? A failed fan will cause the coolant temperature to rise when you're not moving, but then it will drop as you drive since you are passively forcing air through the radiator. Just a though.
