Default P0103 CEL

CEL came on yesterday, code P0103. Dealer tells me it has something to do with the MAF sensor but the sensor is not bad and doesn't need to be replaced. I have an Injen intake which was installed a month ago. Dealer tells me it must be related to that and will not be covered under warranty. I will have to pay the diag. on the car. Any ideas or opinions on who is responsible. Thanks.

^ x2.

Did he tell you it's not bad? Have you rechecked the connections to it? Disconnected the battery to reset the ECU and let the car idle for 10 min or so?

The dealer just called, said the tech tested the MAF and it is not bad. I have checked the connections, they are all tight. Also cleared the code and reset the ECU. I say it is the MAF, but the dealer says it is not. All they can say is it must be my shiney intake. The point of this post really is not to diag. the problem but to have some info to back myself up. How can it not be covered under warrenty if they can not prove it was the intake?

Well, unfortunatel you may be dealing with a common issue.. the dealer techs know just enough to connect thier diagnostic tool to the car and go "duh. it says this... "

For one reason or the other the ECU thinks the MAF reading is off. There are many reasons this could be. Unless that code (dont know it off the top of my head) means it failed a sensor check. Even then a good shop would test more to determine if that is right rahter than try the old swap and recheck method.

But on the flip side, you changed the intake, meaning you removed and replaced the sensor.. now it is off... so they have right to be skeptical. But unless they can explain the issue and the cause, they cant charge you jack.
