Grrrr after the check engin light kept coming on and off for a couple weeks i went to autozone and got the core reader and got it checked. got p0441 and p0455 code. a new gas cap, computer reset and a few choice words later the light went out.


How does a stupid gas cap go bad after 4 years? how frikking stupid.

anyway i bought a code reader cause i wanted one anyway so now i have one. so that was 80 and the gas cap was $11 and the cuss words i used was priceless about the light itself

you can also take the battery cable and reset it that way too

 

the scion tc gas cap is pure dog poo. if you just hit the quarter panel it will just pop off awful!

I have friends that have taken the car to the dealership due to the check engine light...I ask them "did you just pump some gas?" "yeah..." you didnt tighten your cap...100.00 dollars later the dealership says "gas cap not properly secured" bullballs bro...


glad you got it resolved. I have a scangauge use it all the time to check codes (dont have any thank god) and monitor some things in the car...

 

I can't believe people don't get a free scan at autozone or whatever.

We have so many resources that are free and the Internet, basically anyone can find out what is wrong with their car before stepping foot in a dealership.

 

autozone gave me a free scan i ended up buying a scanner myself the next time i went back to get the gas cap. i figured ill need it again at some point and it works on all cars. i got a cheap one for 80. they had ones there 200 and up. im sure if i took it the the dealer they would have charged me for a scan to tell me to get a new cas cap and tried to sell me one while i was there
