Popping out of third gear... when I can get it in third gear.

Okay this is my first post, I’ve recently installed a new rebuilt engine and clutch in my ‘08 tC because my old one threw a rod bearing (yikes) so it was installed, ran fine, needed new motor mounts but now it suddenly doesn’t want to be in third gear. From second gear to third gear with my clutch in is smooth but depress the clutch while it’s in third gear and it makes a god awful grinding noise that makes me cringe. Does anyone have any help they can give to a brotha? Thanks😊

Did you install the clutch? Did you use the alignment tool that's included with some clutch kits?

EDIT: According to the repair manual, "jumps out of gear" symptoms can be caused by:

Locking ball spring (damaged)

Shift fork (worn)

Gear (worn or damaged)

Bearing (worn or damaged)

Rebuild or replace the transmission.......chances are that the car was in 3rd gear when the engine broke and as a result the 3rd gear synchros were damaged.
