Default Pulley differences for the tc

I was wandering if anyone had heard of any performance difference b/t the agency power, unorthodox racing, and non stop tuning crankshaft pulleys as far as performance goes or is it just price?

Here is some info for you... Aftermarket crank pulleys generally fall into one of two categories:
A) Light weight stock sized pulleys (unorthodox or ZPI)
B) Light weight underdrive pulleys (NonStopTuning aka NST)

You should certainly feel faster acceleration as a result of any of these pulleys,
almost everyone who installs one of these pulleys notices a difference.

There are two benefits to aftermarket crank pulleys:

1. Light-weight aftermarket pulleys are often lighter than the stock pulley,
I believe both the NST and ZPI pulley weigh about 1lb. Less rotating mass leads to faster acceleration and better throttle responce.

2. Underdrive aftermarket pulleys slow down accessories,
By definition underdrive means to slow down. So underdrive pulleys send a little bit less HP to the accessories and more to the drive wheels.

So in theory, an underdrive crank pulley, like the NST one, SHOULD put down more HP than just a light-weight pulley if put on a dyno.

I like the NST stuff myself, it is cheaper, its available in different colors, and most important of all makes more horsepower. Unorthodox is very well known and has been around for a long time, hence their parts are often overpriced. The Agency power pulley is the same one that ZPI sells and is basically the same spec as the UR.

Aside from the crank pulley itself, you can also change your accessory pulleys to get a little bit more weight reduction, but I would definitely do the crank pulley first as it will give the most gains.

They make power but there are possible downsides. Read the article and then make your own decisions. I wont be running one myself. Dinan is a premier BMW tuner, but the science applies to all engines

How difficult is it to install a light weight crank pulley such as ZPI - Agency - Unorthodox? They seem like a great way to add some inexpensive HP. Would it be low end/high end power or overall.

There is no physical HP increase, but there is a reduction of rotating mass. Its like a lightweight flywheel or lighter rims, but it may damage the engine. You should feel the difference throughout the powerband

i have an agency power pulley that i used. their was a noticable power gain through the whole rpm range. i have read that pulleys with out the harmonic dampers hurt motors for the long term, so i am selling mine got about 3k on mine no probs pm me if you ar interested in it.

I'm not risking "crankwalk" due to damaged bearings over time of running without a harmonic damper.

just not worth a couple horsies, to me anyway

Well I just ordered my ZPI V.2.0 Pulley w/ Anodized Finish (Along with Injen Intake) and I'll be sure to post up some pictures ASAP. For all us Auto guys I will let you know about the results/performance after the installs. I can't wait!

Let us know... I personally am going with the NST underdrive setup, as I like their reputation much more, and their products are great.... the underdrive will also irk out a little more power as well for me...

There are now three of these... so I'll lock this one down... any comments can hit the others
