Rod Knock? (Cold and Warm Engine)
So, 5w30 mobile 1 synthetic oil starting at 500 miles (got the car with 5 miles on it, 4 of which were my test drive. almost 6 years later i have about 52k on it). every 3 months or 5k miles. Dont race, Dont sit and rev the engine hard, matter of fact, i baby the thing like its made out of egg shells, aside from giving maybe 3/4 throttle to merge into traffic and all that.
Car has an Intake, Header, Axle back exhaust.
I mean its not LOUD, its just loud enough to be heard over the valve chatter at idle with the hood open. Cant hear it inside the car or while driving. Any ideas?

you need a video really for us to hear what it sounds like but i had an issue where i thought i had rod knock to it was at around 40 or 50k and i could barley hear it at first but after 2 to 4 days of noticing the sound it got louder and ended up being water pump which is pretty common to go out on these motors luckily i was under warranty and it got taken care of. but its a pretty bad sound.
are you still under warranty?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLkc...e_gdata_player does it sound like this? This is my car. Its not as bad as the video makes it sound, i havent been able to pinpoint it. Ive used a sthethiscope and traced it to the head not water pump in my situation. It runs great and strong it just ticks. Got 80k on it, its ticked since i bought it Not threadjacking but maybe we can kill 2 birds with one stone here.
I would recommend removing the belt then starting the engine to see if the noise stops if so then it may be a water pump or may be something with the alternator but i rarely see any problems with the alternator on the tC water pumps yes i see them leak/fail almost everyday. If the noise is still present with the belt removed then its definitely an issue inside of the engine. I would recommend to check the pulley on the w.pump for looseness or play if the noise goes away with the belt removed since the bearing is known for failing on this motor, hope this helps and keep us informed on what you find
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koVdc...ature=youtu.be huh.. camera picked it up but my ears couldnt. the engine was cold, but the idle dropped at the back end of the video.
