Default short shifter play question

I just installed my cc short shifter today. I was carefull and I think that I did everything right. My shifter now has just as much, if not more, free play in it. Any Ideas? It is shorter but it seems that the distance is about the same(4 each shift).any helpl would be appreciated.

Hmmm...I dunno. Shifter play could probably be fixed (to some degree) with Corsport's shifter bushings. As far as the throw being the same, I'm stumped.

in nuetral when you move the shifter all the way to the left does it move right back to the middle when you let go? cause i know mine doesn't. mine does not move at all, it's very stiff and i like it like that. i hope it doesn't loosen up to much more.

when in gear i have maybe at most 1/8 of and inch of play in every direction.

i also used the purple bushings and also have the NST shifter cable bushings installed as well, it's very stiff. i haven't missed or grinded a gear since i installed the shifter. i'm very happy with it. :-) only thing left to do is change to redline gear oil, which i'm gonna do within the week.

i don't mean to keep posting here a billion times but it really doesn't make sense that the throws would not be reduced. don't take this all wrong... i'm not saying i don't believe you i just don't understand how.

your saying you put the creative compacts short shifter in and your saying the throws aren't shorter?

i know the first time i put the car in gear after the install i was amazed how much shorter and stiffer it was than stock, i mean it right away felt like half the distance and a little hard to get into gear cause it was so stiff. so i really don't see how mine can have almost no play at all and your saying you have the same maybe more than stock and the same throws. i wish i could tell ya why. good luck though, i feel for ya.

well I decided to take it all apart and re-check everything. After I put it all togather again and tried it it worked better. the throws are seem shorter and their is less play. It comes back in nuetral when you push it to the left. mabey you did not grease the bottom plastic ball enough? when I am in gear moving it still has play. I can move it from side to side.but it is better.

Stupid question, but are you sure you put in the new shifter, and not the original. I am not being sarcastic, but i am an engineer and thats just something that must be asked....

i know exactly what your talking about. hasn't really bothered me much so i havent done anything about it. i dont know the terms for the parts on it so bare with me. the reason is the big ball that connects the two shafts is too small along with the one on the little shaft that connects to the shifter cable. i have thought about inserting shims to tighten it up but dont care at all so... good luck. let me know if you find a fix.

Yea. I am shure I have the new one in. The drop in hight is right and the throws feel shorter now that I took it apart and re-assembled it. It is still to much play I think. I jsut took the *** and the first plastic part around the shifter out to look at it. It seems like the larger middle ball was a tiny bit smaller and allows more play like quiksilver24r said. The other two small ones seem normal now.I tried gentally hammering down on the housing around it but It wont go any further down.
