Default tC CEL- Camshaft position sensor - tC

Ok so my cell came on and I brought the car to autozone to get the code read. It was raining out and I still was able to get the lady to let me use the device (they said they wont go out when its raining) - to make a long story short I have the name of the code but totally forgot to get the actual code. The name is: camshaft position sensor

My car is running but if i dont start moving w/ the rpm's higher it will stall. Also, it idles a tad too low then comes back up so it doent stall. Someone please give some info on the topic. I hope the sensor is just gone and I dont have any cam issues. I don't know what symptoms I would have w/ a bad cam (becides the car running horrible). As soon as im moving the car is fine - no issues at all. This is just an issue w/ being stopped and getting out of first gear.

I doubt it's the actual cam. It will most likely be the sensor.

I would get it once in a blue moon when I had my camcom installed, awkwardly enough it only happened during hard right turns.

If your car runs (properly, at least) you don't have any issues with the cam itself. If the engine code says it's the camshaft position sensor, then (if anything) that's what's out on it.

Most likely, what's happening, is your VVTI is acting up, causing the camshaft to be stationary, instead of adjusting based on rpms. I.E., at idle speeds, the cam should be adjusted to, for example "0" - and at WOT, it should be "10." (VVTI) Instead, it's stuck at 1, or 2, because the sensor is acting up.

Change the sensor (should be pretty inexpensive and easy to do), and if that doesn't work it's most likely:

1. Leaky EGR valve - can cause your car to idle low, high, or rough (and the CEL for cam is unrelated to the idle issue)
2. Vacuum leak (can cause idling issues, and possibly be related to the cam CEL)
3. Idle speed needs to be adjusted (have you done anything under the hood lately, where you might've bumped the idle speed adjustment screw?)

There are probably a couple other things that I'm not pulling out of my head right now, but those three are the most common.

Keep us updated!

If I'm not mistaken, idle has been electronically controlled on most modern cars for a while now.
