Default TRD Exhaust + Magnaflow 22" Glasspack

I was taking a look at some tC videos with the TRD exhaust and they sound really really nice. Even better with the megan midpipe.

Unfortunately, funds are a little short for my car and was deciding to go with a "ghetto midpipe" that is, replacing the stock resonator with a glasspack.

I know what you may be thinking, "a glasspack isn't the same as the megan midpipe". I realize it's not the same. But after speaking with a megan R&D representative, he told me the long resonator on the tC megan midpipes are filled with fiberglass. (glasspack?....)

Aside from not replacing my 2nd cat for a resonator (which the megan midpipe does) I'd be replacing the stock resonator with a magnaflow glasspack of a similar length and diameter as the one found on the midpipe.

I was wondering if anyone has done a similar thing with their TRD axleback setups.

i wouldnt bother doin that. for the amount of $ ur gonna spend, u can pick up a used mid pipe. i got a tsudo s2 cat back for 299 shipped bnib. plus ur gonna hack up ur stock midpipe, and who knows if itll sound good or not. it may sound terrible. my tsudo s2 sounds great, its not much louder than the trd and its not as restrictive as the factory midpipe.

I'm confused....what exactly are you trying to accomplish?

If you're going to stick with TRD and OEM midpipe, just do what I had. When I first bought my car I had a TRD exhaust and OEM midpipe but the guy before me decided he wanted the TRD LOUDER so...... he just had a exhaust shop take off the resonator.

It sounded louder and more like a race car, I was very happy with the setup until i decided I wanted more power and now I have a tsudo N1 set up.

I have the TRD + Megan Mid and I love it.

eBay? Not sure where you're located.

Unless I can find a megan midpipe for 30 bucks, which is how much I bought the magnaflow glasspack for, I really don't see that happening.

I agree. I don't know if it will sound good or not, which is why I started this thread. Perhaps somebody with a similar setup could tell me if it sounds good or not.

My reasons for picking a magnaflow glass pack is that would be the closest thing to the long resonator on the megan midpipe which is a long tubular pipe with fiberglass inside it.

I'm not replacing my resonator for a straight pipe for the following reasons:
  1. RASP.
  2. DRONE.
  3. and..... RASP.
If any of you know the principals behind a resonator vs a glasspack, you would know that a resonator functions on CANCELLING out frequencies while glasspacks MUFFLE certain frequencies.

The factory resonator is tuned specifically to cancel out drone for this engine, where much of the deep tone comes from. I figured with a magnaflow glasspack, I'd be gaining a bit of the deep tone, while the acoustic packing inside controls the rasp.

I'd just like to know if anyone has a similar setup and perhaps share your experience with this.

still need to take a vid of my exhaust. I ended up getting my Megan mid for $35 - sold the drift-spec axleback and kept the mid.

Since you know everything all I gotta say is good luck, since none of us really don't understand the principals behind a glass pack..

So the Megan Mid Pipe is a direct replacement for the OEM mid pipe? I have been wanting to run this setup with my TRD but kept hearing mixed reviews about it just bolting up.

Only thing is that you have to just use a regular bolt/screw and nut where it connects to the TRD section because I think they are all designed to take the Megan canister. The Megan spring bolt has a larger diameter than the OEM and the OEM is too short to use, trying to remember the install. The front bolts up perfectly.

I purchased an hks carbon titanium for about 399. Took it golden auto muffler and told them install a resonator. It took the rasp out completely. Running mmw header. It sounded like a tin can at higher rpms without resonator. After install sound was deeper low rumble. Resonator recommended.
