weird whistling noise at 3200rpms?

I have an 09 5spd with about 6K on it. I have the Injen CAI converted to short ram and an hks hi power axleback.

i noticed that at around 3200rpms when i shift, or when im accelerating i hear this weird whistling noise, and its not the "injen whistle" that doesnt come until about 5Krpms at WOT.

this whistle is liek a high pitched quiet whistle. i checked around the intake to make sure there was no air leaks and everything seems fine.

anyone have any ideas?

yea there`s a leak somewhere, do u have a check engine light on??

shupes31 04-28-2009 04:53 PM

my stock intake has always done that..... I wouldn't be too worried.

KnightRida71 04-28-2009 04:56 PM

My car does that as well even with the stock intake. Its nothing to worry about.

Domo 04-28-2009 04:57 PM

it has to be your CAI, dont believe me? Then swap out your CAI and place your stock intake to see...other than that it could be your speakers..depending on if you have an aftermarket sound system. I know a couple of people who had installed there wires with different frequencies and resulted with a whistling sound every time they accelerated.

i have the injen CAI intake too and i have the same noise. Idk what it is but Ive had it for like two years with no problems or check engine light. I think its normal, it depends on the position of the throttle because mine dosent do it at full throttle only at about half.

TCBABY22 04-28-2009 05:13 PM

mmm i guess its normal

I am surprised this hasnt been locked yet. This is probably the most common question ever asked on this forum.. just not in a while due to people already seeing previous threads.

The stock intake does it... a CAI makes it louder. Its normal

This is from a very quick search using hiss or whistle in the keyword.. there were many more valid hits than that. The search is your friend

Your gonna laugh.......I jsut this last weekend have installed the HKS and am running the WEapon R intake, intake always made roar noise, but since the HKS went on it whistles at the shift points......like a spooling whistle.......it never did that noise till the HKS was put on,so my best guess is higher pull/flow is causeing the whistle, nothing to worry about if there is no CEL.

turbo whistle! LOL

yeah it is funny it gets louder with the rpms and drops in volume as they go down.......at first I thought abird was in there.......lol

cburglb34 04-29-2009 02:58 PM

its normal its a whistle as a result of air hitting your throttle body in the position it is, this is the way our intake was designed and the cai and short rams make it louder short ram especially

breimann 05-01-2009 05:00 PM

my friend had the same issue, turned out to be a defective muffler lol

scikotictc232 05-01-2009 05:30 PM

I had the same issue with my injen. it just means it is working for you. haha jk I dont know but mine did it all the time.

Agent99 05-01-2009 11:56 PM

My old civic, with the ac on, did this around 3k rpms because of the intake. I liked hearing it!
