Default What is the a/f sensor?

Does it stand for airflow sensor, and can I get one only at the dealer? Yes I am changing my manifold to a header. Thanks in advance all.

its the a/f radio sensor. don't get one unless you KNOW you need it, they're expensive. they do tend to strip but i've done MANY without stripping them.

its the air/fuel ratio sensor, also known as the primary oxygen sensor.

i think it reads the mixture of burnt air/fuel from the cylinders. many are cross threaded from the factory, many are not. if yours begins to loosen (left) with ease and then suddenly stops, you'll probably going to need a new sensor.

ya, if yours just STOPPED then you'll probably need a new one. you could try working it back and forth but it probably won't work. GL.

I've tried everything, and it is stuck. Oh well for me, hopefully the dealership will have one on the shelf. Thanks everyone, this is why I am so happy to be a Scion owner.

Really? I'm actually from Yuba City, so if I was home I could just drive down 99 and get one.

It's cool, I went down to the local dealer and shilled out the dough. At least the header's on now, and it is noticeable. Thanks nonetheless though.

those things are like 300 bucks!!! i stripped mine and all i did was just took a triangle shaped file and when over all the treads and cleaned them up...it slid right in after that!! 300 bucks saved!!

Yeah the dealer is the last place I would go to get an O2 sensor. People need to either try to clean up the threads or get one from an auto parts store.

I don't know what mm size the A/F sensor is, but a simple search for a 24 mm die on amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw...words=24mm+die

yielded only about $15 + shipping & tax (if any). I guess you would want both the tap and the die to ensure that the header as well as the cat threads were clean.

Still, $30-$50 and 30(?) minutes of careful labor is a LOT less than $300... and, if it happens again, you are ready for it.

most of the time the die won't work because the sensor has very few thread and they are very coarse.
